Lithium-ion cells are really dangerous, No Joke!
Ok so me doing stupid things like this is normal, pretty sad I guess.

So I just got done salvaging a battery pack with some LG 18650 2400mA cells.
I lost a chunk of the wrapper off one of these cells. Instead of trying to cover it with tape, I decided to have some fun.

So,
I decided to take a pair of channel locks and give it a good squeeze.
Now I was prepared for some violent action, smoke, sparks, and fire. I was equipped with safety goggles and long coat with gloves.

What I was not prepared for was the amount of force that was generated by this one cell.
As soon as I applied enough pressure to crush it half way. The + nipple quickly exploded out with a huge POP!
A jet of smoke and red flame or spark also shot out a good 6 inches.

Now I was kinda expecting that. Just not the amount of force.
It literally pushed my arm and wrist back. Felt like a good pound of pressure.
Mind you it was only for a split second but if it hand stabilizer fins, this thing would have took off like a rocket.

So this is just a word of caution. I'm confident most of us are aware of the potential danger of these cells. Mind you this most likely would never happen under normal use. This cell was put under extreme abuse.
I just wanted to share this as a reminder to never underestimate the power in these small cells.

Holy smokes. While the pressures required for this to happen surely don't occur quotidian, it proves that there's a lot more energy in these batteries than most people think. Someone should make a database of lithium danger threads so they're easily accessible for the forum. Once again, thanks for the contribution!
