I haven't had any direct exposures to any of my lasers but one stupid thing I did was:
Middle of the night, wanted to shine the 405 and 445 around on the snowbanks (the 445 lights up the whole area) I got my 445 out and flicked it on. *FLASH* I hit the button again and shut it off immediately thinking I had somehow gotten a reflection.
Stupid me, I had forgotten to take the GITD dust cap off...
They shine pretty bright when you are dark adapted ;)

If you even THINK you have a eye injury, book a appointment with a retinal surgeon today. They can give you drugs to reduce the swelling and long term damage. Retinal burns can be difficult to detect, even by a professional, and you need a visual field check right away. Damage is not always apparent to the injured, the eye and brain try to "fill in" the damaged area using other "pixels" in the eye.

100 mW at point blank range, even off a bad mirror, is enough to do damage.
GO, TODAY. Do not let a receptionist schedule you in two weeks. If you are under 18 tell your parents right NOW.

That's a good thing to bring out. You may "hit" an aircraft if you point it as a star. To non-astronomy people like me that would be imaginable scenario. Sure the lights of aircraft are blinking but the atmosphere may cause the same kind of effect in sort of way.

In the USA there are legal restrictions about pointing lasers in the sky in aircraft zones. I am just asking for help to understand how these zones are determined.

GUYS GUYS GUYS the current laws and federal sentencing giudelines are MINIMUM 3 YEARS TO 20 YEARS IN FEDERAL CUSTODY !!!! the chances of getting caught are pretty high too if theres a police helicopter in the area they have infra red cameras there is no escaping once they lock on to you !!!

Not true, depends entirely on where you are.
I ditched "HAWKS" twice when I was growing up in Calgary.
One time I just rode around downtown for a while (and I didn't actually do anything wrong)
The other time I rode for a while and then ditched my bike behind a building (locked to a propane tank at a service station) and walked down an alley.
I still hadn't done anything wrong apart from loitering and when they told up to "disperse" my friend and I just bolted in opposite directions. He had a squad car on him and the helicopter followed me.
I have played games with the cops (usually in cars or on bicycles) for years but back then I was in amazing shape. We'd ride at least 12 hours/day and cover hundreds of Kilometers.
Best not to run if you don't know the area either ;)

I was in a hotel in CA with some friends and had a 50mW 532nm on me. I was shining it around outside at night, and prop plane flew over at probably 3000 ft. My friends begged me to shine it at the plane, which I obviously declined. A couple minutes later it got pointed at a building about 1/4 a mile away...and I heard a collective "oh ****...it's a good thing we didn't shine it on that plane" from my friends.


remember if you get caught its minimum 3 years to 20 years in federal custody and now ur a convicted felon in the work force good luck with a job kiss ur ass good bye to any city state or federal job kiss gun owner ship good bye too ... lasers are not toys
