Is $15.00 (£9.50) eyewear protection good enough?

I'm hoping to buy the LZCS 650nm 200mW Red Focusable Laser Pointer from Lazerer soon, but I still haven't got appropriate eye protection for them and I was wondering if a pair of cheap-ish goggles would protect my eyes. I would be using the laser for star pointing, and burning in a controlled environment. I will be making sure to not have my eyes exposed to the beam for any longer than 10 seconds, so if what I'm burning hasn't combusted after 10 seconds then I would continue after a 10 - 20 second break at the least. I would also always make sure I am behind the aperture with no metallic objects in the path of the laser to avoid accidental contact between the beam and my eye. I can only just afford the laser + batteries, so I'm thinking of buying these these goggles from eBay after I have bought the laser (yes, I know it will be hard waiting on a pair of goggles when I have a burning laser sat untouched somewhere, but that responsibility factor of MY EYES will stop any temptation!). However, if these are not good enough goggles then I searched "650nm goggles" and there were a few others so if there are some others on the list then please let me know!

When you buy cheapy goggles its like lottery... sometimes you get good goggles, but usually not.
I wouldnt personally buy those goggles..


I myself have goggles from Dragonlasers., and they work really well.

Yes you can watch the beam as much as you want..

But you shouldn't burn without goggles :tsk:

You really shouldn't trust your eye sight to cheap goggles. For that matter, you shouldn't trust any non-aproved safety equipment.

I recommend OEM laser systems, or laser glow. Both sell approved goggles.

I have ordered 2x glasses from dragon lasers for uv thru green. Great price. Anyone got an idea on how long they take to ship

Mine was shipped to North-Europe in 6 days If I remember right.
