I received my "250 mW, 650 nM, Red laser lab projector, OEM, TTL" from Kenny at Zonestealth yesterday. Delivered, the cost is $122.50 USD.
This laser is advertised as above to output 250 mW at a rated current of 330 mA. It arrived in good condition by USPS.

Mech. Specs: The laser is 1.017" in diameter and 3.925" long. The fluted laser head is 0.883" long and this area is the major heatsink area for the LD. The rear portion is a large empty area used to house the circuit board which floats inside the area. The two pieces are not threaded together but instead pressed and glued.

Elec. Specs: The module is rated for an output of 250 mW at 330 mA current draw with 3 to 5 volt input. I ran my bench power supply between 4 and 7 volts and the current draw of the module remained a rock solid 330 mA.
Power output using two different meters averaged 190 mW - steady.

Lens system: The lens module looks very similar to the Aixiz plastic assembly. It has the small hole at the rear which we usually drill out. Removing the excess plastic did not increase out power.

TTL: The third wire (blue) is a TTL input with 1 (high) turning off the output. There is no analog portion in the on/off curve.

Overall: This is a generally well built module and although it puts out only 200 mW, what do you expect from 330 mA when looking at the curves published on red LD's on this forum ?? This module is easily focused and will do all the "burning tricks" we expect. Kenny at Zonestealth tells me that the recent addition of the focusable lens system is the cause of the "slight (50 mW)" decrease in output power. RIGHT.......

Anyway, This is a solid little module which outs 200 mW for long periods and with almost no warming of the head. Kenny is a very good communicator via email.

Seems ok for the price, no driver exposed, just hook it up to some batterys and you've got a nice burner... but I'd expect 250mw if he advertised it at 250mw, 60mw is a laser in iteself, and being pressed and glued instead of threaded is a bit poop.

Maybe he should sell them as 200mw units

Maybe i'm just being picky, I did just get what could be a 100mw module for $17.24 deliverd :p

You are right on the published specs. I sorta knew that 330 mA wouldn't pour out 250 mW. The housing is nice for future diodes.

Damn, Mike....

I was hoping this one would prove different ! So - it really looks like as far as red modules go, Zonestealth cannot be trusted to deliver the full specified output still. EVERY single one that has been purchased and measured from his shop has NOT performed up to secified values.

But Greg --- It's simply because of the focusable lens !!!!! right -----

I'm working on the driver now -- little turd runs HOT at 330 mA -- you outta feel it at 380 mA and 220 mW !!!

In reality, We here know that there's no 250 mW from 330 mA. We've worked with the best LD's and the curves don't allow that power / mA.

Mike,

Now we know for sure, but like you said we already did. There is no laser diode that we know of capable of putting out 250mw's with only 330ma's. Still it is not a bad price for the amount of power it is putting out...but he should advertise it as a 200mw laser.

Just THINK about the ramifications for a second when you say stuff like that, Gazoo....TRUTH IN SALES ?? What the hell are you trying to pull off, mister ? Hahahahahahaha ! It would be VERY refreshing to see a new company pop up, and do as advertised. We have our "old faithful" companies that we can COUNT on to do what is right, but some of these new guys need to stand up and take notice of what we have to say on this forum a little bit....maybe listen, and DELIVER !

I try to tell these sellers when I order that I "Have Meter - Will Measure".
I directed Kenny at zonestealth over this way to get in on a LPM-1 buy.

The driver board as I stated runs HOT. The little SMT driver transistor now has a brass heatsink. That Transistor appears to be an NPN and is marked 1P. I don't know what it is but larger NPN transistors don't give full drive. Maybe it is a MOSFET. The heatsink helps and I've set it for 225 mW at 390 mA. That poor thing could never survive at rated 250 mW !!! Still, it is easily focused to burn.

I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps their is some truth in the focusable lens aspect as mine does not have this feature. I agree however that it should be listed as a 200mW module. It can be made analog in a sense - Try sticking a 25 ohm pot in series. It will vary smoothly and linearly from 0 to 200mW

I used a 5 Kohm pot between V+ and ground feeding the blue wire off the wiper. There was almost no "analog" area observed -- either on or off with an unstable zone between. They must have changed more than the lens assembly.

5k is way too much and will seem like on/off. I have mine in series with the power (ignoring the blue lead). Try that.
