Default Z-Bolt BTE-4S 635nm Laser Review

***Copied from my website. Click here to visit the original with images***

Laser: BTE-4S
Manufacturer: Z-Bolt
Wavelength: 635nm
Output Power: 5mW
Style: Pen Host with switch on tail cap
Focusable: Nope
Power Source: 2X AAA

Pros: Very Nice Host. Quick Shipping.

Cons: It has the most power a laser pointer can have in the US, but it would be nice if it had a bit more.

Comments:After reading a few reviews of this laser I decided it was make a nice addition because of itís 635nm wavelength. It definitely is a different color than your typical red laser, but at the same time it isnít orange either. Its mostly a red-orange. The host has a very nice solid feel, by far the nicest pen host I have. The switch on itís tail cap is unique for a pen too. For the price I received a quality laser that Iím happy with. I would recommend this company to others and this laser to anyone that wants a 635nm. The only tiny thing I can bring up was that this laser was a little expensive (thus why it received the 4.5). The one image shows the 635nm on the right compared to a 650nm. Itís really hard to tell the difference on the camera, but there is one.

Rating: 4.5/5

It's a 635nm red.
They are more expensive.

The wavelength is slightly brighter than the typical 650-660nm red pointers.
Also, the color has a slight orange tint to it (but it is still RED).

It produces a different color for sure. When the two dots are next to each other you can tell the difference. In reality they both look red to the average person. If each laser (650nm and 635nm) are exactly the same power the 635nm will look brighter to someone.

I had one of these. It got lost at my parent's house though. I need to get another one since my HeNe is the only laser I have in that color range.

My opinion is about the same as yours. I think the aperature needs to be bigger though. I also think a side button would be better. But it is nice not having to hold the button down to turn it on.

$30 for the compete pointer doesnt sound that bad really. I bought a 635 module for $10 or so that does 5 mW. Add in the cost of a decent looking sturdy host, and it seems fair to me.

As for the color: I still think its red. Perhaps a little more towards orange if viewed side by side with a 660 nm, but thats about it. The chief advantage is that it appears 3 times brighter, making a <5mW pointer bright but still safe to use.

This is gonna be a dumb questions, but where did you get a 635 diode? I saw a bunch on ebay, but it's tough to believe that they really arent 660

You can pick up 635nm 5-10mW modules from Aixiz.
Also, I think modwerx stocks 5mW 635nm diodes.
They can be found on ebay sometimes.
