If you work through their support department, I think they will choose a laser for you and email you a copy of the factory test sheet with the serial number listed.  Then if you are satisfied with that specific lasers capability...ask them to send you that exact model :)
By the way, I received 2 new 18650 Trustfire batteries from DX yesterday (as well as a CREE XR-E Q5 Torch) and charged one of them using the charger SkyLaser provided...I tested the PGL-400 and it peaked over 600mW's and stayed there for about 30 seconds before settling back down to 527mW's    I have been experimenting with it everyday and have recharged the batteries several times...so far the laser has been very reliable. :D

Are these the protected (longer batteries) and do they fit well in the PGL 400 ?

have you tried the focus over long distance yet  (water tower test)  ;)
and are the power levels still holding.
also how hot does it feel to the touch after continous use and whats the longest you have let it run for.

P.s   if you put you're herc 300  and you're sky 400 side by side which beam is more impressive.   [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

sorry about the last smiley I just wanted to try it

Yes, I have focused it on many things from great distances.  I live on top of a hill, I can easily light up a cell phone tower which is about 3+ miles away.  The longest I have left the PGL-400 on is around 20 minutes, after that time period it was warm and the power had diminished to around 400+ mW's.  I recharged the battery and it was back to about 600 mW's and then settles again to 525ish mW's.  The unit is slightly dependent on the batteries voltage but not to the point that it doesn't meet it's rated capability.  The beam on the PGL-400 is more impressive then the Hercules because the PGL-400's beam is slightly thicker.  However, if I put the Beam Expander on the Hercules...then forget about it :)  The Hercules with the Beam Expander is like shining a 2 inch beam of green light to infinity ;D

I forgot to mention...I am getting a NIKON D90 DSLR with an 18x105 VR AF lens for Christmas :D So you can expect some awesome pictures when I get up to speed with it. My current camera, a Casio Exilim EX-260 just doesn't cut the mustard anymore

With the " merry2008 " or the " lpf10off " coupons you get an extra 10% off. ;)
you can't get both though, I tried that already. :(
They have it listed in American dollars and its very high right now because of the elections . If you wait untill january the dollar will drop and you could save upto an extra $ 200 . :)

So how good is CNI of late? My fourth RPL is dying after a year of not so hard use. I'm thinking of going back to CNI as Viasho does not build a laser that lasts! ::)

now this laser cost 999$....i think it is good. but i have not understand if it is on continuous wave or no. i read about the problem in burning capability... bho....

if it is a true 400 or more.. that could be FOCUSED well.. should be a best buy!!!

You've had 4 lasers die from RPL? You know Optotronics has a 12 month warranty and they contract from Viasho, is Viasho's QC that bad!

And my friend has a PGL III from CNI and likes it, hasn't died yet I guess.

If you want a Group buy from CNI then check out the group buy section. You could maybe get a 350mw for 500, and a 10X beam expander for 100 for a tighter beam

Edit: Who makes this, I see they claim no duty cycle, is it Viasho?

The only complaint I would have with this laser is that it does not have a clean beam. Look at the part of the video where you are burning the square paper with the black square. Now look behind the paper. You can see all the scatter that is probably from the lens. I had this same complaint with the 200mW version of this laser. I have ordered the 400mw as well and have repeatedly asked their techs to make sure the lens / IR filter is clean on both sides. I will let you know what I receive. I guess I just expect perfection because that is what I received from Optotronics. My RPL-400 is 99% scatter free and still is even after a year.

These lasers are amazing when focoused, they can burn anything (maximum focouing distince ia 28.4m) but when not focoused do pinpoint the mrad is about 1.5+mrad and roughly takes 3 seconds to even burn a dark coloured match. If your intrested I sell the <500mw verions of this laser which average 485mw after 20 mins on for 600 uk pounds on ioffer, but if qoute your from the laserpointerforoums i will sell them for 450 uk pounds.

While I agree that the focus on these lasers makes them great for burning within a specific range the initial beam diameter on them is HUGE. It has a nice fat beam. This was one of my favorite lasers though. Mucho powa!

I got a prototype Skylaser 200 a couple years ago for about $200. It had many problems and I communicated these problems to them for improvements. DrLava participated in this test. I then purchased a second unit after the first one died (200 mW) and I still have it. Focusable green.
This second PURCHASE runs anywhere between 87 mW and 400 mW depending on temperature, battery charge and clean connections. For my help, Betty at Skylaser promised me a "gift" of some kind --- - - - -RIGHT After over a year, NOTHING.

With my experience with them, I would be very careful on a third purchase. Maybe they have improved their product in the last two years.

Sorry Betty --- HMike
