Just gonna do a review on TheJoker's new-ish 405nm laser. It comes in the 501B host, and is advertised at 500mW without the G-2 lens, which is the model I received.
The first time the laser shipped, it stopped working after a few minutes. I'll admit I was kinda bummed after dropping $120 on it, so I sent Joker an email and he immediately helped me figure out what to do. Sent it back, he fixed it up for me, and made sure I had nothing but the best laser. So having waited an extra two weeks to actually get my hands on this wasn't too bad. Needless to say I have it now and am more than pleased.
Because of my wait, he threw in this case for it which was really cool.
Before I get to the fun stuff, here's a little info on the product:
You can either go 500mW or spend an extra 50 bucks for a better lens, giving it upwards of 650+mW.
The diode is S06J 12x 405nm
In mine it just has an Element Glass Lens
And it runs off a single 18650 battery.
This is my first 405nm laser, so I had no idea what to expect. But I think it might turn out to be one of my favorite lasers by far. It burns extremely well, and it is incredibly easy to focus this laser.
That was at about one foot from the match. I have lit matches from six or seven feet easily with it. The official power came in at 485.9mW
I had read a lot about the violet spectrum of light, and heard it can get pretty freaky. Some people get nauseous and light headed, but I personally didn't have any problems with this laser. With the lights off it makes everything white glow-in-the-dark. The child in me has definitely come out some since getting this.
After there was smoke in the room from the matches, the beam looked amazing.
All things considered, I would say TheJoker definitely impressed me again with another laser. I think his customer service should earn him some sort of trophy or something.
For $120 you're getting a strong and reliable laser that will surely make a fine addition to any collection, novice or beginner.
And as always, please operate all lasers safely. Safety glasses are of upmost importance with anything over 5mW, You can get some here: Survival Laser International Home
