This is my first review so please if you think it's good or bad let me know, don't hold back.
I got one of Ricks 3.5W kits and have had two days and nights to check it out.
First the transaction was flawless and he shipped it out the same day he got payment. He's very good to work with. The unit was packed well and was in perfect condition. The machining is very good and the threads are sharp and clean. It has a large 25mm focus ring already installed.

Now to the kit, this is what you get.
The Host
module
2 18650 batteries
2 adapter sleeves 18650 to 26650 Diameter
2 slot charger
wrist strap
Safety glasses
Here's some pics.
The kit

The unit assembled

The front of the unit.

The module

The contact end of the module showing the base of the driver

It's 239mm long and 47mm at the widest point.
Sorry no scale so I can't give a real weight but I checked it a against a 1 pound certified ingot on a seesaw balance and I estimate it at just over .6 LB.
It feels good in the hand and is easy to maneuver.
Here is a video of it on a cd case. I have really bad tremor so holding steady doesn't happen. Watch me jump when the timer goes off at the end.

I really like the kit and will be buying more from Rick.
I live in the city so night time beam shots out side are a no no, but I have a large unfinished basement.

From the front side,Camera couldn't get focused, beam is much tighter.

From the back side.

Well I did it. Here is a night time outside beam shot.

I'll add more burning later and when I get my LPM together I'll post results.
Ed

Ps I can be an idiot. The switch has 4 modes, high, medium, low and strobe. Just realized how to work the switch. push all the way in to turn on high. light touch med and so on just barely press the switch and it changes modes.

At 3.5W you may not want to use this laser until you get better safety glasses!!!! Those appear to be the cheap Chinese ones that have been tested by members and don't do well. Hard to tell since i and probably you dont know the brand. See the yellow link in my signature below for a few different tested and approved safety glasses by members here at LPF. I recommend the Eagle Pair ($45) from SL but the Uvex ($10) are also good if you dont want to spend $45. Remember you only have one pair of eyes so protect them. Other than that, the laser looks nice. Play around with the settings on your camera to get better beam shots. Cameras are very finicky when it comes to getting the perfect beam shot but none the less, nice job

Thank you
I have a pair of UVEX and I'm using them.
I did test the ones that came with the kit and they do block 445nm so I may use them for situations where I am certain I won't get flashed by the beam, like doing beam shots with the laser in my stand.
I plan on getting a pair of these.

Thank you for the concern, that's one of the things I like about this forum; the members actually care about the new guys.

:thanks:

We do care and we hate to see people do stupid things not only because it harms them but in reality it harms the whole laser community. Those glasses looks killer OD7+ would be great! if you are a fan of beam shots then take it outside and point it skyward, but make sure there are no air crafts or UFOs flying around :na: beam shots are always loved here at LPF. I like the slow shutter blurred beams myself, especially in something fog so you get a really nice effect. Hard to get good shots but when you do, ohhhh are they nice.

EDIT: if you look into the sky this summer and see blue, green or red beams coming from the north, that would be me in MA ;)

Great review!

Those OEM laser system goggles are great, I own the ARG filters myself. The YLW is worth the upgrade if you want a higher VLT.

I agree with Antharak, Rick is very easy to work with and I would gladly do business with him again. Don't trust those stock goggles that come with it. I can validate for Livinloud's goggle statement, mainly because my eyes still hurt from wearing those ~1 week ago. (I since then have ordered the 45$ Eagle Eyes from Survival Laser)

Thanks for the kind words .Nice photos very good job,
To buyers ,I put safety glass with kit so buyers have some safety, there not the best but work for a quick flash back! I have a $30 par my wife gut me but use my cheep ones. If you do a lot of burning you may need a better par you can not see the beam at all with these ,but like some one told you just have one pear of eyes. I try to make the best lasers for the best price. :thanks:

Yes, if I did not put some glasses in kit you would have some people not using any glass at all. In my youtube videos I use my glasses and tell people to do that all so
We need to keep this a safe hobby for all!

I know this doesn't mean all that much but here are pics of the dot with and without Ricks glasses. It does show how with the glasses there is no beam visible. Also the POS camera makes every thing brighter. When wearing the glasses all you see is a small dim dot.

Without glasses

With glasses

Just want to add that I have received no compensation from Rick for this review or this follow up on the glasses.

Ah, pictures made me worry a bit. It's amazing how effective these cheap goggles are.
