Re: Reke 500RGB

Thanks for the review, I just ordered one last night from the same site. NObody has reviewed this thing, it seemed like such a steal. It does need some upgrades, but a great starting point.(Im going off specs) It was also my first time using that site, so it comforts me to know you received yours and in only a week. thanks buddy :) I do lights in clubs so Ill have some sweet pics and video soon, Ill post them on here

Yeah I searched high and low for some videos or reviews of this unit and I couldn't find anything I was going on blind luck and hoping for the best.. I figured it couldn't be worse than what I had already.

The price is amazing (you missed out on the $60/$100 give away) It definitely could use some upgrades however it doesn't _NEED_ them to be functional. (BTW I wouldn't believe any of the specs I think their all lying).
I have heard of Dino before but never used them and I was glad to have a smooth transaction... Their order system was messed up for me and it still indicates the unit hasn't shipped but they send e-mail updates and a picture and a tracking number as time goes on... Do allow them 3-7 days to ship it.. DHL took 6 days but only because there was a weekend and a holiday in between. I ordered it Monday and got it a week Tuesday.

Looking forward to seeing your videos, I don't actually do any pro lighting stuff I just enjoy laser shows and like tinkering.. I just got my DMX interface a couple weeks ago.

If you do any ILDA stuff I would love to hear about it, I don't know if I am ready to drop the cash on a DAC at this point.

The laser definitely has the power and the showyness (is that a word) to suit a club and would look awesome in combination with all the other DJ lighting gear. Just make sure you keep crowd safety in mind when setting up.

Oh and prevent the laser lighting from strong vibration or punch!

Re: Reke 500RGB

Thanks again also for adding the videos, it really gives a basic idea of what the system does already without any advanced programming. For the price you paid it seems like an excellent buy, I'll probably try and snag one for myself sometime in the near future. +

Re: Reke 500RGB

Ok video of the fog is up, it's much nicer (and longer) than the other videos. Gives you an idea of the beam show as well. I have confirmed the unit goes through patterns in order and loops there is no randomization at all.

I will be hooking up DMX tomorrow and adding a detailed DMX512 review to the OP.

Re: Reke 500RGB

Oh why did I have to click on this thread. I am sooo tempted to buy one of those. That price is a steal. Where did you find that $60 coupon? That would probably push me over the top and make me buy one.

Edit: I'm going to go watch the vids you posted which may answer my question. I'm not sure what the effect is called but can this projector make the color fan/tunnel? Something like in this thread.

I know the projector he built is much, much better but if it could do something similar that'd be awesome.

That's just a beam show.. You need fog machine and to be looking towards the projector to see that... If you want I will try and grab a shot from that angle for you in the next few days.. I have to get a lot of fog going and I will have to pull out a camera I don't care about... I'll update the OP with a shot soon.

The $60 coupon was a 2nd anniversary promo and it's over now.

I think that your talking about that group buy of the 15k scanners... Those were apparently not that great and that was just the scanner module.

A good set (50k Spacelas) of scanners are like $210.

You could probably replace all the bits one by one to make it into a very good unit if you wanted but it's really not that bad on it's own if your not super picky.

Also I just finished documenting the DMX functions of this unit as well as all the patterns. I also built a Freestyler fixture with all the gobos setup right and I will be posting these after I check them when I am awake and have a chance to test them.

Re: Reke 500RGB

Ok so I found a coupon code for 10% off and free shipping. When I try to checkout there's no option for free shipping. DD you're starting to lose the goodwill you got from me after reading the thread about your green laser pointers.....

Re: Reke 500RGB

I thought it was free shipping too but it's not...
They don't offer free shipping because it's an extremely large and heavy item.
You will have to pay about $60 shipping but it's still a good deal.

I also got a 15% off coupon while poking around their site, it just popped up.

Re: Reke 500RGB

Hmm. I guess I can see no free shipping for really heavy items but there should be a disclaimer that it doesn't apply for items over X pounds/kilos. Maybe offer 10% off shipping. Guess I'll poke around for some better coupon codes. BTW when you ordered was there some countdown clock on the product page? It seemed to reset when I reloaded the page.

Re: Reke 500RGB

If you actually dig into their site (I think in the FAQ) they say they put "Free Shipping" on product pages when shipping is in fact free and usually things that weigh over 2 KG are not free. This is 5 in the box I believe.

I think the 15% was random, I had the 10% code and that one just popped up I think it was a one time coupon it was long and had a bunch of weird numbers not like their dino10 or whatever the 10% off one is.

Mine was $210 after coupons + $65 + $15 tax = $290... The cheapest RGB ILDA projector I could find was $350 and I would have to pay tax on that as well so this is still a good deal.

And yes there was a clock I am not sure what they were counting down though.

BTW sent you a PM.

I thew up a video a found a while ago of the 500RGB doing a beam show from the front.

I think he could have used a little more fog and probably could have got a better effect from it but it's still pretty good. I think those pics you posted may have been taken with a longer exposure than the video actually shows.

I can guarantee that guys equipment is much better and probably can draw more beams at once but you still get a similar (obviously not as good) effect without dropping $2k on a projector.

Re: Reke 500RGB

Wow. That looks pretty damned good for a $250 PJ. Obviously not as many colors since it doesn't use analog modulation but wow. I think I'll probably pull the trigger on one soon.

Thanks for linking the video!
