so.. i ordered a laser from DX and from swimminsurfer256 both are definitely over spec.
the one from swimminsurfer256 can pop balloons on fresh batteries and melt some plastic, with a magnifying glass. guesses about 30mW since the beam is visible in a well lit room. and the beam is a bit fat.
the 5mW from dx DealExtreme: $10.08 True Green Laser Pen 5mW popped a balloon several feet away instantly and is at least 2x brighter on the cheap Chinese batteries that came with it
also can mark up a logitech mouse... the beam is about the same as my old alpha 105 o.o
dx cost $10.08
swimminsurfer256 cost 12.50
both are most definitely worth the buy. if you want fast shipping go to swimminsurfer, if you want to wait a few days longer go to DX.
I live in USA and americans can order the DX laser
PS: the laser from DX was for my gf as her first laser and i was hoping it would be ~5mW or so so she doesn't blind herself...now she has to use my laser shades... why is it when i hope for overspec i don't get it but when i pray for spec or under spec it comes WAYYYY over what i want it to be...
