This is my first green laser from Rayfoss, 300mW IR filtered :wave:

As shown in the picture (below) beside a ruler, the RF532-300mW-FMK is 23.5cm long. And it is by no means a small thing~ :eek:

The laser pointer itself weights 358g, with ultrafire protect 18650 is 403g, which is not terribly heavy. :)

Here is a picture of a OHIR 20C-A Calibr.Thermopile Head for Laser Power Meter‏ (bought from LaserBee's ebay store) and wiring diagram provided.

One interesting thing about the thermopile is that it requires dual rail of 5 to 18 volts input power.

Thermopile is now hooked up to a DMM (celebrated), either the thermo pile or my fluke picked up some ghost voltage, but for our brief reviewing purpose, it does not matter.

The Rayfoss RF532-300mW-FMK started at 280mW and slowing increasing its power. The 18650 battery was measured with 4.08 volts (don't have a auto stop charger, thats the best I could do) And over a period of 3 minutes, here is the actual power reading (1mv = 1mW).

I'm sorry for say you this, but you are measuring your laser in the wrong way.

Keeping the laser so close (in contact, in your case) to the thermopile, false your measure, giving you incorrect reading, cause the thermopile is so sensitive that can read the bare thermal dispersion of the laser body as extra-power.

The correct way for measure real laser beam powers, is placing the laser at least 20 cm away from the thermopile, defocusing a little bit the beam, so the spot cover at least half of the surface of the thermopile (and ofcourse, NOT touching the head with the hands, and keeping laser and thermopile head on some non-thermal conductive surface, like plastic or wood, for avoid thermal exchange or thermal changes in the thermopile itself)

This way, you can have the real power reading of the beam.

The battery die fast on me, from 4.15v to 3.95v in like no time. I guess i will have to use a dc power supply next time.

As for beamshots, my picture wasn't successful, I guess i have to adjust the exposure time....

I know, its kinda hard to do a nice beamshot.
All I can tell is to place both, your cam and the laser on the ground or a tripod if you have one. Then use the autotimer to get a nice result :)
And use night mode, if your cam supports that.

Are those heads calibrated?

I've got the 350mW version coming from Rayfoss....if it ever frikkin gets here!

according to Laserbee's ebay item description:

This auction is for a New suplus Stock OPHIR 20C-A Calibrated Thermopile Head.
The Thermopile head has never been used and the Thermopile's
Active Area is pristine.

The head has an internal calibration amplifier that is calibrated to 1mV=1mW.
Connecting the output to a Digital Multimeter set to Volts will turn
this Head into a 5 Watt Laser Power Meter.
With active cooling the Head's Sensor can handle up to 20 Watts.

I can't verify that with any other instrument but I trust LaserBee is a legit selller. :)

i have the same laser.. tested as 320mw... but i can not say if it is tre... my little lasersbe read only untill 200mw.

sincerely beam is not so much bigher than a 50mw laser pen.... e ixpected more from a 300mw laser...... i must wait to meet HIML9 and test my laser with his laser power meter... :) himl... i think to go near your home in october... :)

ah... my laser is 352 grams... without any security tools....your is 358 ... :(
and my laser came WITOUT the lower sticker with printed model number and details.... its strange. maybe i received a non premium unit?
BENNETIC.. how did u pay for ur laser?

Hey bennetic, depending where you are in the Toronto area, I have a Kenometer Pro that we could use to verify the power measurements, along with a 50mW Nova X-Series to do comparisons. Nothing else yet, but I'd also love to see the 300mW coming from this beast. :D

Realista, I don't have a 50 or 100mw green laser, I only have a crappy 145mw green with no IR filter, so its hard to make a fair comparision.

Ped, they used to put the 300mW model on the website but now they removed it. You can ask them for availability.
