700 mA.. its amazing it took that really. Given proper cooling i guess these could be operated at 350 mA/200mW for quite some time, and with decent overhead too. Not a bad result at all!

I'm i reading the earlier post right that the beam is visible can some one explain why some reds are and some not.

It's a matter of wavelength and power really. The beam from these 150 mW+ diodes is visible to some extent, even though their wavelength of 650-660 nm doesnt appear bright to the eye. In fact, the beam from a 30 mW green is probably more visible, also because shorter wavelengths also scatter more easily.

It's a bit of a hazard really - the beam doesnt even appear to be insanely bright, while at these power levels it ingites matches in a split second when collimated.

There is no model number, and there is not spec sheet... ;D

Hence the testing

These units are not commercially available, and thus fall under the same category as what MaxYZ uses for their lasers...

wow i just read this thread, you really have your hands full Daedal! these diodes look VERY nice, are they robust though? i mean they arent like an open can, powerful but weak at the same time are they?

well, i suppose since you havent actually broken one yet you wouldnt know how resilient they are

so, would a GB kryton barrel be good heatsink ing for one of these at 400, or even 420 ma? what is the max you suggest to push these things (ma wise) in a kryton barrel?
