i'm sorry but some of those pointers are stupidly expenssive.

especially the blue ones, it costs £399.00 for a 5mW blue, whereas it costs $399.99 (265.74) for a 5mW blue from dragonlasers. and when the GBP goes back up after this silly credit crunch it will cost £199.99 for a laser, that's a savings of £200!

Well, I agree that it wasn't cheap and in the end it cost me €145 with "priority" shipping but as far as I can see, the quality is very good. As a matter of fact, I have to assume it's a Leadlight Technology based pointer or uses at the very least, a Leadlight host... .

Yesterday I was trying to figure out how to verify that it has an IR filter (for safety & not for power-measurement reasons) and I found an easy and very successful way!

I removed the batteries and illuminated the host from the battery-end and peered into the aperature and not only did I see a square IR filter, but I could also clearly see the brass disc that holds the KTP at a 45deg. angle as well as the purplish Vanadate attached to / just behind the KTP  :D

Although it's good quality, which is good that it is great quality, however if i can get the exact same laser £200 cheaper, but just wait alil longer, i would rather save £200 =\

I know it's off-topic but... don't hold your breath, the GBP will be down for a while & so will the global economy in general... :-/

If anything, now's the time to save by building your own... ;)

fwiw, now that I have goggles I can concur with David as I also measured a divergence of < 1mrad  :)

I've ordered an LPM but in the meantime, I can say that mine pops "black-markered" balloons at a distance of 5M within secs but will not pop a light-colored balloon (regardless of distance), nor can it ignite a match (regardless of color).

Last but certainly not least, pattern is a clean, solid TEM00 and is stable for the duration of the [self-imposed] duty cycle of 1min.

Fwiw, I found this interesting bit over at CPF:

"Atlasnova is the only destributor in the world who supplies ALL black leadlights. Also, his leadlights can be purchased at higher outputs (>60mW for example). After close examination of these pointers, some have said that larger diodes and crystal assemblies are used (in the 105 version)."

Now that I've spent more time on the forums, I am fairly certain that the Stealth models are Leadlight hosts with beefer diodes / crystals. And also all-black hosts too, so that AtlasNova is no longer the only supplier "worldwide"...  :p

As I don't have an LPM, etc. I can't give you any specs.

Update: Well now I do have an LPM, the one & only Ken-O-Meter :D

And as you can tell by the image below, this <50mW LP continues to amaze me! Look at the post-IR filter output - well above the speced 50mW ;)

This was my first laser and I have to say I got really lucky "first time 'round" As someone noted above, it's not the cheapest LP around, but you get what you paid for and then some! High-quality finish, powerful, stable and clean low-divergence beam. IR filter included.

Bluesky (Megagreen UK) gets my fullest respect

150$ for 70mW is not something I'd be proud about IMO. I mean you can easyly get something better on o-like, or any other place.

If all you're interest in is raw power, than sure you can find something more powerful. I also own an O-Like module. I've compared the two several times in LPF.

But as a complete, off-the-shelf, non-DIY LP, this is a first-class unit. The finish is perfect (anodized black), the button works perfectly, the beam is very clean with a very low level of divergence, etc. Detailed specs are available above, if you're interested. The fixed-focus model is about $50 less, I believe.

you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

these days everyone wants something for nothing and then when it goes wrong is surprised.

spend the money and get the quality

thanks for the link dude, will definatly consider this company as it takes the stress away from chinese companies. people these days dont know the difference between DX lasers and high quality lasers of the same power, thats the problem. also having a laser hobby is definatly a very expensive one, and many people who take this hobby are young and cant afford the likes of dragon and novalasers
