well, as I indicated the meter is not horribly accurate but 10-20mw depending on the laser isn't bad. Most I've tested is a 200wm laser and it was off by 10mw as well. so this isn't a bad little kit I personally would like to see these units come with the backlight enabled. All I did to get it working was just wire on some jumpers. Here is a picture of what it looks like with the backlight on.

Hold on, so the meter you tested on post #15 was jake's meter? I thought it was Daguin's. :-?

actually both jake's and daguin's. I've compared both and they seem to be reasonably accurate. don't know if I'd pay the price they want but certainly a good way to get a better idea of what Your lasers output is than the other laser power meter they sell.

WEll, Now I've finished daguins meter as well.  Got it all dussied up.  Have to say this is one of my best builds   I even put glow in the dark paint around the sensor to illuminate around it.

This is gorgeous. I'm sure that Laserbee is sitting with his mouth open about now. You have turned a functional bit of electronics into something that I would not be ashamed to leave on my desk all the time.

Thank you, Ken

Hey Kenom!

The unit arrived today. It looks even better in person. This is a nice "tight" little piece of kit now. Now I have to decide what to do with it.

I could just leave it on my desk for "quick checks". My 365 is in the closet. I have to pull it out and set it up every time I need to use it. Of course if I keep pilling stuff up in my office here it will begin to look like my wife's office!

I could give it to my friend, but I'm not sure that I like him THAT much. Plus, he is looking for a "proper" LPM right now. :-?

I could sell it to someone on the list here. Lots of people want/need one that costs under $200. Historically, I've been pretty good at that.

I guess I'll make a phone call to my friend and see first how I feel and second how he feels. ;) That will settle at least one question. :)

Thanks again for all you effort and creativity on this project. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Peace,
dave

These little "heads" have been discussed several times in this list. They are awfully tempting because they are always available, people need an LPM, and they are affordable. Unfortunately, his little sensor heads do NOT work as well as this unit. As you were reading this thread (and others) you will have noticed that people keep saying things like, "happy to see that this is not as bad a ripoff", and "better than the other power meters they sell". These comments are referring to the fact that these little "heads" that they sell are NOT worth the money an NOT accurate enough.

Save your money. Watch eBay for real power meters. Bid low on anything that is offered. Be patient. Hope no one else has noticed the auction. You should also keep an eye on the list. I have offered three in the last few weeks. What I had on hand is gone, but I continue to watch for deals on eBay and the used equipment lists. When I find them, I pass them on to the list.

Peace,
dave

Find someone nearby you who has a meter until you can afford one (or get lucky on eBay)

Peace,
dave
