I don't concede anything lol. I think the arctic host is gaudy and fairly unattractive. And there are plenty of hosts more distinctive than the arctic. If you want pics go look at the non-flashlight based host of the year thread.

To me the arctic looks like a toy.. it was marketed like a toy, and by most people who bought one, it gets used like a toy, and not like a dangerous high powered laser, which it is.

Who would be interested in the gaudy, unattractive Arctic host.....

ZapU... what purpose did that post serve? You're not going to be able to convince qumefox to change his mind on the looks.

Instead, why not stop ignoring the second (more interesting) half of his post and my post that elaborates on those same ideas. That can actually yield an interesting discourse.

I don't really know the point of it either. I don't see what other people's opinions have to do with my own. I'm not them. I'm me, and I don't really see a whole lot exciting about the arctic.

First, let me say, I respect your work with the software for Kenometers, NOHD charts and laser labels. You obviously are seriously into this hobby.

As for qumefox, I'm still thinking of your earlier claim to represent most of the forum and also your inane claim about WL not sending out review units. You're entitled to your preferences. But I want to point out your arguments are not necessarily the universal view. Many members here may not know all the facts regarding the Arctic.

Trevor, our last posts came out simultaneously. So I didn't see your last response before I posted.

I think my Arctics are as dangerous as a gun, and I treat them as such, as should everyone.
At least the WL has gone to great extent to make the G2 safe. Electronic code, training lens, safety pin. That should make most people aware of the danger.

But I also agree with the premise that if lasers are not tools, then they are for entertainment, i.e. "toy". Particularly ANY handheld laser.

As Speaker Rob pointed out, we are getting into semantics .

And as to Wicked marketing, their screw ups are well documented, maybe we should start another thread to discuss this. I think we have gotten off topic here.

Thanks. :)

...coding is my strong suit. Note the general lack of DIY builds in my signature. ;)

I posted mainly to ding your thread subscription so you'd see mine. I knew they came out simultaneously. And yeah, we should probably spin off a thread.

.I think there are multiple levels of "toy" in the laser world - a spectrum, if you will. DIY builds would be in the middle. Real laser equipment would be close to the non-toy end but still "entertainment." WL's marketing places the Arctic at the "plaything" end of the spectrum.

While I agree you can hand build a better spec laser, you assume everyone is willing or able to do that. And yes, I know you can buy them from forum members, but they don't have some of the features available only on the Arctic. (Specialty lenses, safety switch, unique host)

MojoLa may be a little exuberant but I'm not sure the phrase "most other people on this forum" really is accurate. I just did a quick and dirty search for Arctic owners that seem to be happy with theirs. A partial list is below (82 lasers).

Hoo hoo!!! I made the list!! :D

It's funny because I'm not actually sure what to consider myself. I'm not really a newbie to laser pointers (I had a 15mW Green back in 2002 when they were $500 a pop. Best $500 I ever spent).

But on the other hand, I'm one of those people who pretty much use my laser pointers as "toys" (in a safe, responsible manner).

I actually bumped into the Arctic while searching for the 445mn diodes, and though it looked freakin' cool, so I got one.

Sure I waited the 6 months out, but when I got mine, I loved it so much I got a second one (from someone on this board).

For what they are, I'm happy with my units. Haven't burnt a single thing, and I find focusing them just makes the beams look smaller lmao.

I admit for true laser enthusiasts I'm not really an unbiased source of info. As long as my units keeps on chugging along, I feel I got what I payed for them. (both were $200 each add in shipping and minor expenses)

Sure, I own an Arctic (G2). I was also a member of this forum for over a year prior to the Arctic release.
I will admit that I like the laser, but I absolutely prefer the yobresal 1.05W build I have to it.
To me, the arctic is just too large and bulky, so I rarely use it and would never carry it around. I didn't purchase it because it looked like a light-saber, nor am I in love with the host (other than the 100% duty-cycle it provides). I purchased it because of the $200 price-point and the option of an extended warranty. I do think it has an interesting look to it but it's surely not my favorite of the lasers I own. :bday:
Now, if it was waterproof and >1W, it would be up there on the list. :san:
