Anybody recall seeing a post about power output before and after "beam correction" prior to all the deletes?

I was shining it in the sky last night (beautiful dark blue wad reaching to the heavens), but I noticed that there was a good bit of blue light illuminating a structure next to me. It was more pattern like, would move in a consistent pattern as I rotated the body. I thought it might be light refracting off the front lens so I took it off and it still illuminated the structure. Currently the beam is noticeably bar shaped, not terrible, but enough that you can tell the beam is elongated from holes burnt in a cd case at three inches.

I will probably try to adjust the lens as shown in the deleted "beam correction" thread to see if I can get it tighter. Just curious if getting it down to a square beam will reduce overall output or just concentrate it into the square.

Come to think of it, I will remove the black heat sink from lens first, I bet the beam will be very wide once it’s not forced to shot thru the small hole.

This is one of mickey threads.
I should only guess it was deleted.
remember- the forum may delete your posts - but google watches over all of internet! :pop:
dude this CACHED in google search is just freaking awesome!
here is your guide:
How to fix the "rectangle beam" on your WL Arctic.
Hope it'll help - but it seems wicked also has its eyes on this forum, so it seems they have now fixed their lens assembly with some sort of epoxy - so it seems like it'll be a tough job doing what mickey did. it was indeed a good tutorial!
Good luck!

Why the heck was that thread deleted?!?

It was a great post with pictures describing how to fix a major issue.

I don't know...
There were also some other threads with really good info that have simply poofed for no apparent reason. I'm really lost regarding what criteria the mods are using to determine when to delete threads. Also why delete them at all? Just lock them.

please dudes...
you guys realize the more we keep discussing whys and whys for the threads management - the higher the likelihood of THIS topic being closed/deleted the same way - leave it be - what is done, is done. that is not such a big loss that it can't be rebuilt.

Now - i have some questions:
#1:
Is it plausible that WL will fix the beam in the G2 model? - reallly: do you guys think they will concern time and effort in doing so? because many members are just waiting for this. Maybe if they won't fix the beam, people would jst go with the G1 - isn`t it plausible?
As far as i know - G1 is indeed on stock now - they are sending units weekly, aren't they? but G2 seems to be quite tough to build - do you really think they will spend even more time fixing the focus of their units? i dunno.
#2:
Do you guys think (well - i do) that by inserting a smartswitch in an already tight host, WL is increasing significantly the risks of malfunction over time? i mean: they are adding an eletronic accessory to the assembly - if that crashes, the laser may be fully operacional, but locked down by an eletronic safety device in malfunction. - and then again - given the reports of WL Assistance, it is highly probable that it would be the end of your arctic before you could repair it... - So: by mere speculation - is the G2 switch sparable? is it an essential safety device? maybe the G1 is better without it?

Well that is it - enough speculation (geez! is that the propper way to write it?).... heheh
cheers~!

Thanks for reviving that thread, Heleno! I think there was a lot of helpful info that was deleted by the mods. Couldn't those threads just be archived?

Anyway, I worked on my lens yesterday. I carefully picked and scraped the epoxy off. I didn't take the main lens housing off. Then I turned the lens in a little and it made the beam worse!
I was almost in a panic as I turned in back outwards. The focus came back and I was able to make it a little more square.
BTW, the black heatsink "top hat" had no effect on the beam.
Mine had a lot of thermal paste in it. I saw where someone else cleaned it out. I left it in. Doesn't that help it cool?

I don't know why people think it's a blue beam? My one is more purple than blue. Looks blue in the glasses, but purple to the naked eye.

The thermal paste won't hurt anything as long as you ceep it out of the optics.
I only cleaned my thermal paste off the threads so that when I remove and change lenses I don't get goo all over my hands and box.

1-Most likely no. It would take a ton of expensive optics to correct the beam on the g2 and also it would reduce the output significantly
2-Most likely yes. Adding all of that complexity to a laser is just begging for some form of malfunction or breakdown.

If you want my honest advise here it is. Cancel asap and get the 1W spartan from dragonlasers. That thing already has a glowing review about it. The thing supposedly was putting out like 1.1W.

I'll probably cancel myself in a few days if there's still no word on the g2. I ordered 2 months ago and this is getting beyond ridiculous.

I think it looks blue because my naked eyes spoke to my brain last night while my hand was shining the laser into the sky... The eyes told my brain, "hey dude, that's a pretty deep blue" and my brain agreed. Mean old wife would not come outside to look at it but I will ask someone else for their observation next time I do it.

I have not looked at the beam indoors without glasses on but the dot with glasses, the dot varies from blue to violet or a hot pink, depending on the target surface.

Through my glasses, on my budweiser dart board the spot appears white on the white parts, violet on blue parts and pink on red parts. Glancing around the glasses at surrounding objects in my peripheral I can tell my entire room is lit up very blue. Outside without glasses pointing a good distance away i can clearly tell it is blue. Maybe your eyes are broken?

How do you know it is blue or purple at all? That's just the matrix telling your brain that the laser is that color.

sweet.

apparenlty there was a ups tag on my door when my roommate woke up, stating that signature was required.

motherf&*$.

wish his dozy ass would have woken up, and not given me attitude when i reminded him its not hard to wake up to the door being knocked on, repeatedly, and my dogs barking, its just hard for him to get his ass out of bed.

sadly, i have lived with him too long hah, i know the way he works. lazy a$$h0le

Well I've officially canceled my arctic.
-Paid for it 2 months ago when it said IN STOCK
-2 months later I have no laser in my hands
-Now I keep hearing reports about horrible problems and QC issues with the arctics
-Still not the slightest indication of when the G2 model will be done
...........
You blew it wicked. I think I'll be getting a spartan from DL:p

I still say the reason to own an Arctic is for the host, get a Spartan if you want POWER! :gun:
... Or if you want your laser delivered within 3 months.
