Hi,
Thanks guys for pointing out the missing bits of silcon and stuff that I paid for ;)

jayrob,
I had sent him a few emails, and given him chance to respond, before asking paypal to intervene, otherwise, I wouldn't have a go in public.
Re: Possibly not knowing the difference: That could be part of it, as he details a part number "Model: 650nm SF-AW210" for this red diode elsewhere on his site. I beleive the part number is for a 6x blueray diode. It was because I saw that picture of the LOC, along with him describing it as a LOC that I went ahead with the order. I have a degree in electronics, and lots of experience so am well versed, but appreciate most hobbiests dont go that far. It seems like he has a good reputation on here, so I'll wait and hope for something posted on here, or in my mail inbox from him...............

Hey I just saw this thread, niko posted it on my facebook page :) . I hadn't seen any of the emails from you about the diodes. The red diodes I have in stock right now are from SF-AW210 sleds, they are the red diodes in that sled. I had thought they were long open can but I'll change the sales item page now that I realize they are short open can.

I had tested the diodes and they appeared to have the same electrical properties as the LPC-815 diodes so I didn't update the "20x dvd burner laser diode" page, as I believe these are still 20x dvd burner laser diodes.

I had seen your paypal dispute but not having seen any emails from you about it I had it escalated to a dispute as I was a bit offended of a paypal claim with no emails (as I now know I was mistaken and you had tried). As you found out Paypal doesn't deal with quality of items, just if the item was shipped.

As for the quality of the diodes, I have been training my brother to ship out the SF-AW210 red diodes. The SF-AW210 diodes are a bit harder to harvest and I have a feeling those were a batch from his first 30 or so to harvest. He is getting very good at it now and I trust his skills now.

I'll replace the diodes that you feel were inferior though if you want.. Or just refund your payment for them.

Send me an email to ken1645@gmail.com , this will go straight to my phone's email.

thanks,
Kendall

Sounds like a resolution is forthcoming, but in the interest of expanding scientific understanding...

Laser diodes are NOT silicon, LEDs and laser diodes use III-V compound semiconductors. Red diodes are generally AlInGaP-based structures on a GaAs substrate. There's a whole host of reasons for this, but suffice to say, it's not silicon.

Sorry, I'm just on a science correction kick here recently, after the Science Channel just a few minutes ago made a huge, blatant, high school physics level mistake in their explanation on a show about punkin chunkin. They had a Nobel Prize-winning physicist on there to explain the physics when recording the show, and then make such a blatant mistake in their post editing and computer diagram generation. It just pisses me off, it's the freakin SCIENCE CHANNEL, they should get this stuff right!

Guys I did purchase sume stuff from Kendall, he IS a very nice person to deal with, and I can and will (and did :p) reccomend him. modwerx is OK but the shippement is a bit too much for me, however if you want your stuff within a week wherever you live, this is the guy to talk to.

Sorry about this mix up everyone. I updated my sales page to have current pictures of these diodes.... I had no idea these were short can vs. long can.

Here's a pic of my diodes:

Hold on that can't ... be right.
3 out of 5 diodes the OP recieved were LONG open cans.
Hey Kendall from where exactly are you pulling those diodes?

Maybe they're the SmOC (small open can) diodes from Pioneer drives. They're better than LOCs.

Nope, OP clearly said that out of 5 LOC diodes he recieved, 2 are short open cans.
Now, there was no note or anything pointing that the SOC's are 3.6 mm, as I believe if they were, there would be some sort of comment on that !
Why would you say that? Isufficient amounts of cereal this morning ? :D:crackup: J/K
