I was at the dollar store buying bubble envelopes I use to ship my lasers.

Decided to check the radioshack beside it. (actually its called The Source, but I still call it radioshack)

As usual, I found extremely overpriced parts. (like $6 for 2 little 4001 diodes)

I checked out the soldering section and to my surprise found these helping hands.

Only $17 too!!(CAD)

The also had a 5w - 60w adjustable soldering iron for $17 but the tip was really fat :(

Anyway, this should be VERY helpfull for all my future soldering.

I included some pictures.

I RECOMMEND EVERYONE GET SOME HELPING HANDS!

Nice job man! The helping hands really come in handy! BTW you can buy new tips for almost all types of irons, if you look at the back of the packet it should say tip size it will be something like Tox. X being the size for example To002 which is 0.02 size tip and To105 is 1.05 size tip(well that's how it works here any way). Use that size and you can match a tip with the same size to the iron you have. Keep in mind different irons have different base sizes, my old iron was fat near the top then narrowed till it reached the bottom (inside the iron).

Hope that helped! :gj: -Adrian

I had a set of the helping hands from Radio Shack, & wasn't too happy with them. I got a much better set from Harbor Freight. The magnifying glass has LED lights with an on/off switch to illuminate your work for you. The alligator clips are larger also. I like this one a lot better than Radio Shacks...................rob

Yeah, it is. The one I had from radio shack had the magnifying glass fall out of its housing in about a weeks time. POS INHO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rob

Yea that's really nice.

I don't really need the led light though.

I got plenty of light plus I don't think I'll use the magnifying glass anyway.

One things for sure though, EVERYONE should get these.

I've got one of these, love it, absolutely need it. It holds the parts while I hold the soldering iron and the solder.

@ Tabish, That wasn't a COMMAND to buy the one from HARBOR FREIGHT :yabbem:,merely a suggestion. I'll be 55 Years old in 2 days, & have worn glasses since age 6, so I thought that the light coupled with the magnifying glass would make the assembly & soldering of tiny parts a lot easier for those of us that are at, or rapidly approaching senior citizen age. Our eyes don't quite function like a 20 year olds anymore, at least MINE don't. rob

Sometimes Radio shack has some awesome clearance deals. I got craftsman long nose pliers for 2$ and other tools for under 2$, a led fan that shows the temperature of your computer case for 2$, 2 sets of Precision screwdrivers for 3$ each and tons of other small stuff. I am a really big fan of radio shacks clearance deals.

I personally can't use the typical helping hand as they dont' have enough hands. So, I built my own.
