I recently received my Laserbtb 980nm 800mW laser and so far I've been moderately happy with it. I paid $120.75 for the laser and ~$37 for DHL shipping. I ordered Friday and it arrived the Tuesday of the week after that Friday, (today) so like ~14 days (too lazy to add) It burns dark materials well, but can't even light a dark tipped match. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't even when I focus the burning point on say, a black trash bag. I suspect this wavelength is reflected more than others. (yet another reason to wear goggles) Let me make another statement: the fact that this laser is completely invisible is terrifying. It takes special care to keep my eyes functioning. ;)
So far this is my experience
Pros:
• Laser burns dark colored objects well
• Laser has lots of safety features
• Runs a while on batteries
• Has a long duty cycle
• Pinpoint focusable
Cons:
• The shutter is easy to forget to open because the beam is invisible
• Wavelength not easily absorbed by light colored objects
Another strange thing I noticed is that the little plug in the back of the laser is not required to run. When I bought the laser, I thought that would need to be inserted, however, it appears that a small metal piece already does the job and the plug is for remote control (according to the downloadable instructions).
Here are a few pictures. No beam shots for obvious reasons. In the future, if I make a youtube video I’ll link back here. And for safety I’m using my Eagle Pair OD4 190-540+800-2000nm goggles.

I like Laserbtb products but I dislike their not moddable.. and I am not a fan of IR without some crystals in front of it but I guess if you really enjoy burning stuff.

Nice laser! Enjoy

Do you have a good IR filter? I'm curious if yours also has the 490nm line.

I wonder why buy an IR laser since you cant see the beam, kinda takes away all the fun no ?

Yeah I don't use it much but it's good for proving to people that just because you can't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
