Man after I saw this custom host first shown by DTR, I had to have one!

So I contacted Ehgemus, and he sent me one in short order...

It is a perfect size that is very small, but still has great heatsinking and a decent size battery...

I just used the diode case pin for the negative.

With a FlexDrive, you can also just solder the diode case pin together with the diode negative pin, and then go directly to the driver negative output. But I used an isolated wire from case pin to driver negative input... (if you are using a Micro Boost, you must use the method shown - isolated wire from diode case pin to the driver negative input)

The only modification that I needed to do, was to drill and thread the focus adapter deeper, as well as machine the front of the AixiZ 445 lens a little shorter.

This was because I wanted to minimize the gap between the focus adapter and the head of the laser.

If I had not pressed the diode past the flush point, I probably wouldn't have had to do this modification. But since I had already pressed my diode, I had to follow through with the extra work.

But this 'keeper' deserved it! :)

My choice for the current setting, was based on the idea of getting at least an hour of run time between charges...

Not trying to go for max power, just a conservative setting, but still very good power!

Ehgemus really does some nice work! These are the kind of builds that I will always hang on to...

Thanks for the comments...

I would say that when DTR asked Ehgemus to design something in this size, it was the perfect set up...

And as you can see, the machine work and design is flawless! :gj:

Nice unit you got there Jay.:p

It is the perfect compromise between size and battery capacity. When I first started looking at the high drain 14650 I thought this will be perfect for a custom host. Ehgemus was very enthusiastic about putting it together for me. I am sure it will come to be a very popular host of his.

It looks like demand is already up. Batteryspace is already out of stock of the battery. I am sure they will get some more soon.

Sanyo Li-ion 14650 Cylindrical Rechargeable Cell: 3.7V 940mAh (7/5 AA size, 3.47Wh)

There is also a 14650 cell made by Mitsubishi but I am not sure of the max discharge rate. You can find them on ebay.

Also I would avoid the trustfire 14650's as their low discharge rate will limit the current you can set the laser to and I have found their batteries to be way over rated for mAh.

Wow that's a tight squeeze...

If there's a way to push a build beyond what you would think it could take... DTR will do it!
