Hey Dudes. You're looking at this philosophically wrong. DX may indeed sell crap but it's fun crap and it's cheap ;) ;) ;)
In all seriousness, send those goggles back to DX and demand a refund. You are certainly entitled to one. It's a sad thing to see how much light is passing through those pieces of s**t. I'll bet they cost about three cents to produce.
If you really want to talk about scam artists, then let's talk about how the friggin' oil companies are bankrupting us all :'(

Yes it is true that much cannot be expected of DX.

But these "protective" goggles are just plain dangerous, imagine what would happen if somebody bought them, thought he was "protected" and without testing on a piece of paper (like members here would) and decided to test them shining his laser right into the goggles while wearing them...

These goggles should NOT be sold and should be taken of the market immediately.

That being said, they are MORE expensive that WL shades which can be had for 40 shipped from stonetek, and they provide much (a total understatement) better protection.

No Murudai, DX ARE scammers

Selling a '200mW' laser thats not 200mW? Not even close? So far off in fact that the manufacturer themselves will tell you they arent 200mW? Selling OD 5+ goggles that arent even OD 1. If I sold you a 1 ounce gold bar for $1k, and then only sent you a 1 gram flake of gold, can I just say it was a poor quality 1 ounce gold bar? No, I scammed you!

So please, don't tell me to "STFU". When you buy a brand new 300hp car from me and I send you a cardboard box on wheels with a hobby motor in it, and then you defend me as a salesman nonetheless, THEN you earn the right to tell me to STFU.

Until then, lets keep things honest here. DX are scammers. I fully admit they do not take your money and run, but that's normally about the most praise I can give DX. They're cheap as hell, no denying that, but they commit fraud on a daily basis without batting an eyelash <- fact, you cannot dispute this and we all know it.

Sorry for my anger. I buy from DX myself and despite their utter unreliability, I still take gambles with them. However, I don't rampantly promote them on the forums because to do so would be horrible irresponsible. As far as I'm concerned, any time anyone promotes DX in any way without appropriate disclaimers of their known, verified, and long-standing fraudulent tendencies, they are promoting fraud, deception, irresponsibility, and just generally allowing people to get ripped off. As many of you know, I'm very fervent about trying to stop people here from getting ripped off, and in order to do that I have try to put DX in its place once in a while.

pseudonomen137, DX aren't scammers. Crap quality products does NOT mean scammers.

DX sell dodgy products at very low prices. They don't grab your money and run, like how I picture a scammer. Or send you a product completely different to advertised (like an empty pen case instead of a working laser).

I've spent probably closer to half a grand at DX by now. And not once have I been dissatisfied with ANY of those purchases.

I bought some crappy bullet lasers for the heck of it, they work perfectly. I bought some cheap button batteries to go with, powers them nicely. The dilda, amazing laser. Then all the batteries and chargers I've got, worked a charm. Then other things, like USB wireless adapters. Couldn't beat them at $25, so I bought several. And each one has worked perfectly, in fact it's how I'm connecting to the internet right now.

So I'm sorry mate, but STFU :) DX aren't a scam, they are a verified source for 'good' crappy lasers.

According to me, you're just saying their lasers are a ripoff.

That doesn't include all their other products, that I have found in perfect working order. <1% of their products being a ripoff does not mean that they are scammers.

Anyway though, DX just reselling these lasers with the specs they are given doesn't mean they are scammers, it means THEY are being scammed by the laser companies! THEY are selling DealExtreme cheap lasers to resell and LYING about their specs! Then you can say it is the responsibility of the reseller to provide good products. Good companies take this responsibility themselves. But that doesn't companies that don't do this are bad companies. It means they can sell things for cheaper and the responsibility for the product comes down to you.

You can't compare them to companies that offer quality service and QC because that's not what DX do, they just provide cheap products, and you need to go out and make sure they are good. This is one of the reasons why they can be so cheap, if they went and verified everything they would increase the costs a lot and it wouldn't defy the point of 'cheap products'! That's why on DX they have review areas and forums to discuss the products, so people have an idea of what other people have got from their product.

Bottom line is DealExtreme JUST resell products. They don't test them, they don't verify them, they just sell what they are given with the specs they are given. This DOES NOT make them scammers, it makes the original manufacturers and sellers of the lasers the SCAMMERS and DX just an ignorant inbetween.

IMO, if you KNOWINGLY sell items that do not perform up to the specs specified on your own web site, that makes you a scammer. REGARDLESS of their other product lines, they are purposely ripping people off - and those are the facts. If they did NOT know their items were crap, then they would simply be ignorant middlemen who sell crap. BUT - the proof is in - they DO knowingly sell items that do not perform as stated.

Argue away - you cannot change the facts, period. Do I shop there ? HELL YA ! and I do so knowing that I may get crap in return for my money - and that is my choice. Pseudo is merely warning others that have not come into contact with DX previously.

I think we can all agree that DX is a questionable company no matter how you look at it. And we'll keep buying from them, knowing full well it's always a gamble.

k? :)

Yep. It wouldn't be the first time a Chinese company forges the CE mark.

CE is a label you are supposed to slap on yourself as a manufacturer, to indicate a product is compiant with european directives (on topics such as health, safety and such). There is no 'official' CE label sticker issued by some central institution, its a mark you print yourself on any compliant product.

There are about 2 dozen of such directives, but none apply to laser pointers (or shades) in particular. I guess the directive to apply here is that on 'safety of low voltage devices'. The requirements basically boil down to demands such as the laser not shocking you or setting itself on fire due to electronic malfunction. If you want to know more, the directives are here: http://www.newapproach.org/Directives/DirectiveList.asp

As for these green DX goggles: send them back, they do not do what they are supposed to, and are probably intended for some other purpose we can only guess. DX have mislabeled them, and i think they will refund you as they clearly do not work at all.

I have been a custome of dx for about 5 years now. and ordered MANY MANY things :p Some things are totally crap and other things are just great!

I recommend to read the reviews before you buy it! And if there's no review then make one when you get it. This will prevent people getting crap through their mailbox :p

Greetings,,

I think I read somewhere that CE certification for laser safety eyewear would require it to comply to EN207/208, which these obviously don't.

Was it really necessary to resurrect a thread that is nearly 4 years old just to tell people that they should read reviews before ordering things on the internet?

It may just be CE certification for the impact resistance of the plastic or other CE-certifiable things. Unless it explicitly specifies those EN207/EN208 standards, I wouldn't trust it.
