WOOT i finally got my Spartan! :D

First thing i noticed, is the "dot" supposed to look like this... as in have the "echo line effect" going off to the positive Y axis?

spartandot.jpg

Also the front cap came off extremely easy, as easy as the battery compartment cap. Maybe this one was opened before?

I can't wait to use this thing at night. I'll post a review in a few days once i get a good feel for this laser (with plenty of nice beamshot photos) :]

Yup, that's a feature of the laser diode. My Yobresal 1W has that effect going in the positive and negative Y axis, symmetrical about the axis.

Mine had a very tiny blob of glue, but it made it very hard to open :D Took 15 minutes before I finally managed to break the glue. Maybe they stopped putting glue on the front cap? :)

what is the material of the lens? I'm shocked but I think it's plastic, not glass. I've just tried to clean the lens with a cotton wool on a match and it seems that there some scratches have appeared.
Who knows, what lens it can be replaced by? Maybe from some DVD-drives?

Surely not from DVD .. those are pretty small, not designed for collimation (AFAIK they actually are elliptical lens so the spot shape is used for auto focus), and coated for RED light. They also are often plastic.

YouTube - Spartan 1Watt Blue Laser. Watch in HD, Quick made vid, if anyone want's me to make a vid of anything specific just ask here i guess and i'll see what i can do :)

Hmm my spartan can't even burn through a pen-blackend toilet roll of paper no matter how long it sits there...

Maybe mine is underpowered? I have noticed that when i turn it on it pulses for a few seconds until it goes into it's normal fast-pulse mode. I wish i had a LPM :p

I've noticed after some playing around with it, that it takes about a minute to heat up and then in jumps in brightness where it then can burn through the toilet paper roll.

The less-than-max brightness is still bright though, stings skin and lightly burns the roll (without burning through)

It might be the rechargeable batteries (although i have only had them for about 3 weeks..) I'm gonna get some non-rechargable cr123a to test the performance

Have you tried different batteries?

Nope, the lifepo4 re-chargeables where working great (i could burn through anything) when i got the laser. I'll get some tomorrow and test to see if it's the laser or the batteries. Currently when my laser has not been in use, it takes about 30 seconds when the laser just "flashes/pulses" before it goes into its regular fast-pulse/continuous mode

I am using Tenergy's LifePO4 3.0v 750mA on my newly bought Spartan 1W. Seems to work great but I am not sure if it is really at 1 watt.
Tenergy LiFePO4 RCR123A 3.0V 750mAh Rechargeable Battery

Scotch and sting when I put my palm in front of the beam. Small ants dies and fell off from walls easily . Easily cuts black tapes as seen on youtube. Lights up my matchstick in 1 second or so. All performed at point blank in daylight indoors.

Not able to kill Cockroach at all. Iam at 1m distance (day time indoors). Cockroach just keeps running but sure seems disturbed by the blue dot. Finally fell off from wall and struggling on ground, where I flattened it with a roll of newspaper.

Yet to try out on black plastic covers, trash bags , black balloons, mosquitoes, and flies.

My nospin LPM has shipped early this morning. I will test out my Spartan 1W when my nospin LPM arrives, and lets see if I got the same problem as you.

Got my nopin LPM last night. Tested my Spartan 1W and I got 1.1watts constant for almost a min. Maximum peak at 1.2 watts. My Tenergy LifePO4 RCR123A 750mAH works great!

You should RMA your laser asap, you probably got a defected one.

My Kenometer will be arriving soon. Will have data logging to see the exact Peak and average.

Unlike OP's laser, mine can't burn through white objects or clear plastic unless I hold my Arctic's focusing lens in front of it. Otherwise, it makes quick work of everthing else. It's funny how it can't light a candle, but will simply burn the wick down.

Review is not that accurate, some Spartan have very pathetic low duty cycle of less than 1 min. My newly bought Spartan died after switching on for just 1min continously and Dragon Lasers is not claiming any responsibility to repay me back.
