I know the things say OD 5 in the 445 range, and OD 6 in the 532 green range. For kicks I tried one of my lil greenies, around 50mw, with the glasses on. There is almost zero difference in brightness. The lil greeny still hurts my eyes when hitting a light colored surface. It's still like looking at the sun. Shining the laser through the lens and on to the wall, the dot is a little more diffuse so its hard to compare the brightness, but it still looks pretty bright. Does that sound like OD6?

I don't know if id use them for any kind of close range burning. Daguin said his pair blocked all but 9mw of his arctic which would be safe for all but a direct hit (which isn't real safety at all). I'm not sure mine would block that much since in whats is supposed to be its stronger range, it can't even properly protect me from a ~50mw green.

All I can say is that my OEM Laser Systems goggles that are only OD 3+ for 395-540 block out FAR more 445nm light than the so called "OD 5+" goggles that came with my Arctic.

They (the wicked goggles *EDIT) feel as if they are only OD 1+. You can actually tell the laser is blue still with them on. My OEM LS goggles remove all traces of blue/violet and they are marked as a lower safety goggle than the supposed Wicked Goggle.

FWIW, I don't think our spectrophotometer has enough resolution to see past OD3/4. Anything more and it might not register the light.

I had noticed that the Shades provided by WL seemed to pass more 445nm light than I expected. I even had a reflection off a crystal glass, and It Was Bright enough to trigger My blink/look away reflex. At the claimed OD a reflective shot should not have been that brilliant.

I noticed with my OEM goggles, there is NO trace of blue light. The only light I can see has a white, red, orange... whatever tint to it and appears to be flouresced.

With the WL goggles, I can see traces of blue. The dot still looks looks "blue" therefore I know some blue is getting in the lenses.

I wonder if anyone out there in Forum Land can accurately measure the OD of the WL shades. It would be extremely nice to know if We are risking on vision or not by trusting them.

I had a run-in with these things... I was playing with my optics kit when i dropped a mirror in front of the beam, the power of the laser through four mirrors and then through my provided goggles not only triggered the blink reflex, but also gave me a nasty headache and I was seeing spots all night. I suppose no damage was done but wow, definitely a wake up call. :scared:

Yea I definitely felt something when I got hit. It was a real shock to the system, because I had expected the protection to be better. I did not see any after images or spots, but I was sure that I would with the way I reacted. Been about 48hrs now with no ill affects so far.:scared:

I noticed this. I put my WL glasses on, and saw the color blue and actually said WTF outloud. I thought higher OD ment higher protection, NO! My OD4 glasses, 445nm diodes look like 0.1mw white dots, darker than my 5mw reds. Guess lower OD means more protection?

Other think I noted, if i shine my arctic through my OD4, thers no dot even 1" after the glasses. My OD4 glasses are made to reflect and absorb. Does just that.

I did this test to my WL glasses, I see a blue dot easily, even at 2ft. So yeah, they do rather suck to my $30 Eagle pair. As these dont show ANYTHING after the lens.

sounds like these goggles are a pile of useless plastic, I wouldn't risk your eyes using these.

I have a set of dragonlasers goggles and can't see any blue from my 445nm build at 1A, all of the green light from my 150mW and all of the violet light from my 110mW PHR is blocked as well, you definitely shouldn't have a triggered blink reflex from reflections when wearing them. I suggest you look into getting some better goggles, you only have one pair of eyes :(

I don’t know if it's psychosomatic after reading all the poo poo towards the WL glasses but my eyes feel like I've been sitting in front of an old CRT monitor all night right now, after playing with a "<1w 445nm" laser on non reflective surfaces a couple times today, with the manufactures supplied glasses.

OEM safety glasses, is it safe to assume that this does not refer to Original Equipment Manufacture glasses, ie, WL laser/glasses combo, but refers to some other company that sells under the name "OEM"? I had a bad experience with "OEM" car parts that ended up not really being OEM, was a company selling poop under the brand name "OEM".

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

The Jury is still out on these shades but it's not looking good. My eyes feel tired if I work with the laser for more than a few minutes.

"OEM" Glasses may refer to "OEM LASER SYSTEMS" glasses. High quality ANSI/CE certified glasses.
Not to mistaked for WL's oem glasses.

We should make an effort to refer to goggle brands them more clearly.

Edit... I'm leaving work now..,
I'll bring glasses to test on my lunchbreak tomorrow.
