If you wind up with a DX 200mW module, you could get up to 140mW out of it. Be nice if you got the freak one that gave near 200mW ... It took DX three months to ship mine when I bought them. They will burn through black tape without a helper lens. The o-like modules seem to have a smaller beam diameter. The DX module that is giving 140mW won't light a pink match without the helper lens. My o-like module that gives 140mW lights the pink match no problem. The narrower beam of the o-like allows a balloon to be popped at eight feet fairly quickly. The DX would not pop the same sized red balloon from the same bag of balloons until I was one foot away.
But the problem is this: 200mW DX is about 46$ and 80~100mW o-like is 60 $.
I am not enirely sure at the moment will I even be able to afford the DX one. You reviewed those and stated that they output about 90 to 100 mW after the IR filter. Decent for the price payed! But I don't think I will be able to afford the O-LIKE ones (I know they are of much higher build quality) as much as I would like to :(
I was hoping that if it exceeds 120-130 mW it should be able to light a match without external lens. But heck, maybe I will be lucky enough to get a freak.
First of many! Hope to see more reviews from you in the future :)
Awww thanks Niko! I'll review everything I buy (related to laser OFC :p)... however I'm not buying stuff everyday you know. I'll try dude, but I believe my first priority over these holidays will be my own DIY LPM project.
They tend to give a new proffesional look to reviews: " The laser measured 113.2 mW peak ... " :p

Don't RMA your laser because of the alignment issue, this is normal with cheap green modules and if the beam doesn't graze anything there shouldn't be much of a problem.

That's pretty cool that your laser converges, that is pretty rare in these cheap greenies.

The most weirdest (and coolest) thing is that it is overall better than my 50 mW greenie which I bough a year ago for 60$.
It has same or better divergence (hard to tell), it is equally bright beam (although I don't have the equal pair of AAAs, so it can be brighter), and it is very easy to install.
And button is not bithcy, you know, pressure senzitive. I tried testing that thouroughly (the laser after all is not for me but for my friend, and I want him to be satisfied) and brightnes does not change wether you press harder or not, regardless of batteries power level!

I definetly reccomend O-like.

Nice. Did you get an IR filter for it?
Nope, I did not. Too much of an issue?
Only another thing to pay... my unfiltered 50mW greenie served me over a year now, I did not use goggles at all (never had them) and as you can see, I'm still typing !
Being carefull and using lasers in proper way pays off.

Good review, mate, +rep. It made me more likely to order one of these modules in the near future... :D

Thank you m8!
If you can, please do order a 3digit number of milliwatts :D Now I have two 50 mW greenies... and it just fuels my need for more power.

However that is entirely up to you.

UPDATE!!

Okay a weird not-so-unexpected thing just happened.
After leaving my laser accidently in from of my laptops exhaust vent (where the hot air goes out) for several hours, I grabbed it and I played around with it and noticed that

THE BEAM IS CENTERED IN OUTPUT LENS!

I entire top half of laser is very warm, batteries used are more or less empty cheap crap.
As to be expected, there is no warm up time what so ever, and the beam is very bright... and centered!

I guess it is the temperature that makes the difference in alligment.

As I let it to cool down to room temp, the beam is equally bright, no warm up time, but again, on the edge of the lens.

I will look into the matter (or laser :p) more thouroghly, my friend for whom the laser is for will be picking it up next year, so I got some time to play around with it (YES ! :D).

Maybe heating it up like that couple more times will bring the crystals back into their place, centering the beam for good?

Bill, you mentioned you also have several missaligned ones, care to try to reproduce this effect? Warming it up seems to have large effect on beam profile.
