Hey there LPF!

This is my first review ever, and I am doing it on my first 'true' laser. I say first, but it's really my second to make... The first was a 405nm I put into a Nerf gun, and will soon be in a Magicstick (I'll do a review on that when I get it!).

So, without further ado...
The 445nm 1.1A Ultrafire C8!

A little background...
Basically, I had some extra money, and I decided I wanted a blue laser to go along with my blu-ray. I ordered an M140 from DTR, and it came in a few days later. I had decided I wanted to build a high powered 2 watt laser, so I was then on the hunt for a nice sized host. I also Mwanted have it relatively small and not too huge (like the maglite and Saik). I saw a build that Machinist Joe did with an Ultrafire C8, and I loved the size of the thing, so I settled on that as my host.

When it came to a heatsink... I didn't know what I was going to do. I was thinking about multiple people when I could send the host to and have a heatsink made when I just figured I should just ask Machinist Joe how he got his. Turns out, he made his own, and he offered to make me one for free! This was a very nice surprise. And so, two weeks later (he forgot to send it for a few days after he made it :crackup:) I got it. He had told me he had a surprise for me, and boy was he right! Just look at the amazing job he did!

Now onto the build and components...
For optimal thermal performance, I opted to get a copper module for my M140. I used Arctic Silver thermal paste in between the module and the heatsink for better heat transfer.

The driver... Funny story here. I was wanting 2 watts, but only ended up with a 1-1.1W build. I had originally used two BenBoost 914mAh drivers, but I accidentally killed them :yabbem: So instead, I'm using this 1.1A no-name boost driver.

The clicky... Is not a clicky. The original one broke on me, yay! So I went to RadioShack and bought a switch to use instead.

The wiring of the switch. I used Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive and glued it down. Then, I stuck a wire into one of the unscrewing holes and laid some solder down on top of it. I ran that wire to one end of the the switch, and soldered a spring onto the other end.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for! Glorious beamshots!
I was only able to take one good one, so I'll take more when it gets dark in another 4-5 hours and add them back into here.

With no lens, the M140 produces a big BEAUTIFUL big rectangle onto my ceiling (picture taken laying down on my floor aimed up to my ceiling).

Wow! That heat sink looks amazing! Love the design! Way better than having a plain HS :p

Sick build man! You can always upgrade if you want more powa!

Glad you like the heatsink. Put a lot of time into that guy! Still haven't gotten around to making me own! Lol

Looks very CNC machined heatsink. No way it can be done by a manual lathe.

Machined the heatsink on a manual lathe. Then wrote a quick program on the computer for the design. Then machined it on a 2 axis CNC knee mill. Turned out amazing. Pictures don't do it justice. Every one of the grooves has a chamfer around the edge too :)
Looks very CNC machined heatsink. No way it can be done by a manual lathe.

The heatsink really is amazing :beer:

I haven't tested the duty cycle for long yet, but I believe it'll be infinite.

That looks like the o-like driver, I have one that I modified a bit (removed the spring) in an MXDL 3405, oddly enough, with a glass lens, it's brighter than my other 1W 445 that uses a G1.

On track though, that is a BEAUTIFUL heatsink, and an overall awesome build! Good job! :beer:
