I got a short peak at about 1.9 W but steady 1.86 for about 60 seconds. The 26650 cell arrived and is charging but I still have to make a small filler for it in this host.
I have left the current at ~1.7 Amps. I burned the die bonding wires off of one at 1.8 amps once!!

DTR ---
I had to machine some stuff to hold the "BIG DOG 26650 cell" !!! Sorry to say I'm not at 2 Watts. -- yet.............
I'm kinda happy with this however -- still at ~1.7 Amps -----

It is all good I was just giving you some stuff.

It looks like you got a little bit of a bump with the new battery. Very nice.:eg: What was the 18650 cell you were using?

It was a duh green tube with no markings......... It was the best LiIon I had which would fit and supply the current. Protected cells are a PITA for fit in these housings. I had to clip, grind and machine stuff to get the 26650 in there!!!!

I just looked and I did not document it very well. The pill is threaded in the host. If you unscrew it a few turns it gives you the room for the 26650 with the tail mod.

On the tailcap I removed the brass looking cover and just left the spring that was underneath.

dtr have you ever killed a diode yet at these powers yet ? like 1.8A or 1.9A?
since you heatsink the drivers do they get dangerously hot yet at these powers?

whats the next step gonna be to take these diodes further(if they can go any further)

just a few random questions!

DTR ---
As this is a hobby, I assume all the builders can figure this out.

I replaced the driver board with a piece of perf board press fit into the threaded disk. The spring is very short and the disk, as you said, is threaded in only a couple turns. That front spring can be replaced by a copper disc since the rear contact has the spring.
That rear "nipple" is plated steel and can't be ground off enough.
I had to machine the plastic switch retainer to accept the aluminum hold down shoulder so it wouldnt short to cell ground when screwed together. I don't like tape since it can slide around when screwed together.

As has been posted by myself and others, these diodes seem to fold back in power output when pushed to the MAX. I KILLED two diode at ~ 1.8 Amps. They went dark when the bond wires burned out. No LED stuff here.
I have run these diodes high and they DO need TEC for extended high power cooling.

My "portable" has a massive machined aluminum heat sink but I do see power drop after over 2 minutes as the innards heat up.

Thanks, i have been through this ( and every other DTR tutorial and review) a few times, I just could not recall remembering anything about diodes dying, or anything of that sort. It's a shame to think that this is the limitations on these diodes. But only have dealing in lasers for 4 or 5 glorious months so far, I understand that this is a pretty phenomenal feat already.

Thanks for the info HMike.

COST ???? This is a hobby and cost is no object

If cost was a hobby problem, this would not exist :eg:

I estimate ~$190 for LD, drivers, housing, lens and cell. I have the aluminum and machines to make the heatsink and other innards.

Hobbies still cost money and I want to see if this hobby is afforable for me to recreate. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :)

You can do it but it might take a little time.
Stuff comes up for discount sale or GB occasionally.
Start small and work up -- It's better that way.

NO --- That is $tarw@rz gun. ~20 Watts of CO2 laser.

Someday, even you can build one of these -- Only Meatball has seen it!!!
