Re: Review of My New 100mW O-Like Green ‘Cute’ Laser

Is the design such that the focus ring can be removed so you could put some teflon tape on the threads to make it more smooth? Thinking about getting one of these, but I hate sloppy focus.

The laser's focusing ring might be removable if the front cap is removable, which I have tried to remove and it seems like it's all one piece, this makes it difficult to clean the lense. I did e-mail Susie, about removing the front cap, but she only said to use a simple q-tip. :undecided:

I might just get one and try it. If nothing else I could probably moosh some silicone into it or something.

I wouldn't worry about the square; if it focuses to a pinpoint it won't even matter, and my FLX is the same. When you say that the focusing ring is loose, does it unscrew itself or does it just rattle back and forth?

Ohhh, the FLX! I read it as 'Fix'. :yabbem: I was actually looking to buy that one, but I then read a few bad reviews about Rayfoss which scared me away from it. I would have loved the safety features, in my opinion it adds a more serious 'THIS IS NOT A TOY' kind of look.

I think you made a good choice, as I wouldn't recommend the FLX...

The dot only turns into a square sometimes once it gets warm, but I wouldn't say it's mode hopping, just an alignment issue.

I too was going to buy from Rayfoss but most of the reviews recently aren't amazing. Seems like the "cute" lasers are pretty good for the price. I'm thinking about buying the 150mW version.

@Ash, i don't believe it is waterproof but the Gatlin version is, comes in 100mw & 200mW but starts to get pricey.

Why not? I just bought the flx

You can read my review, I just thought the laser was overall low quality. The finish started coming off on the head, the shutter kept getting stuck, the button is pushed in much lower than it was before, and the focusing ring rattles and sticks.

Yeah, O-Like is hands down better quality over Rayfoss. I tried a few Rayfoss products, and they were lower quality than O-Like and also underspec.

I told RF that the last laser they sent me was 20% underspec, and they told me that "maybe it is the difference in divergence on our meters". Whatever that means. I told them that the very same O-Like model I ordered was 20% overspec when tested right next to theirs, and they then said that they would be sure to recalibrate their meter. LOL

To answer your other question about the focusing ring rattling, it doesn't. Unless you're waving the laser around madly, you can't hear or feel it moving.

Re: Review of My New 100mW O-Like Green ‘Cute’ Laser

that is basically what i am reading all over this forum. someone needs to update the "A GUIDE TO BUYING GREEN LASERS" since O-like and Rayfoss seem to be backwards.

It talks about how O-like used to be great but they are slipping and Rayfoss is "exceeding it in everyway."

then it says Rayfoss is cheap but "Faona has been getting some extremely high-quality products recently, and the company is so good,"

Seems backwards compared to what i've been reading. I don't have either so i can't vouch for it personally, but i am planning on buying from one of them so i've been trying to compare the two

I completely agree with you! O-like's quality is great! I was thinking about buying lasers from other companies like Laserglow or CNI (After I got the one from O-like), and then I thought 'why?'. I mean, unless you want extremely stable power output, it's not necessary to buy from them. The quality of O-like's lasers is great, and in my opinion I don't need anything better. Rayfoss, on the other hand, has been getting less than desirable reviews recently, plus people have said that they don't respond to e-mails sometimes.

Re: Review of My New 100mW O-Like Green ‘Cute’ Laser

I've emailed Rayfoss and they replied but it wasn't very fast, better than Wicked Lasers though! I bought 2 lasers from them and you'll be lucky to hear anything from them, but as long as i get the lasers in the end i'll be happy.

Just curious, how come you only got the 100mW "cute" laser when for $30 more you could've gotten 50% more power in the 150mW version?

Actually, because I didn't want to save up more lol. Plus, my laser is rated at 120mW because Susie wanted to give me a higher power since she did not have to send me batteries. :)

I assume Susie is just one of the people who replied when you did the "Contact Us" page?

No, Vivien answered me through the "Contact Us" page. I simply talked with Susie through Windows Live Messenger.
