Man DTR you just keep topping yourself with all these monster builds. I guess this is another record breaker for you on LPF. I have to get one of these and I know I'm not the only one. Kudos to you for finding that battery:)

And he's not done yet.

You can use a 14670 protected lighthound battery for this, I emailed them and the battery is only 2.3mm longer then the 900mah sanyo batteries. The lighthound is protected and 1100ma

You could use it for a lower power build but the protection circuit would most likely limit the current to around 1A output. This is set to 1.5A output and draws 2.3A from the battery.;)

I think the way they can increase mAh rating is by decrease the amount of current that can be pulled from the battery.

You think the battery can output enough for flexv5 set at 900ma?

I would say it should work. You may want to check and see what the max discharge rate is. A flexdrive will draw 1.6A running @ 900mA when the battery is fully charged and will pull almost 2A when the battery reaches 3.4V.

Just checked these numbers with my bench supply.;)

I built another dual flex 14650 tonight with the drivers set to 850mA each just to see how it would work. 1.8W:eg:

EDIT
After playing with this for a day I believe this is as high as this host/battery combination should be pushed. It will run for 1 minute 15 seconds with a fully charged battery before it starts blinking from trying to draw more current than the batteries can supply. But if you let it rest for 30 seconds you can go at it again all over with the only exception when the battery starts getting low it will happen quicker and the battery life it around 15-20 minutes between recharging. After 1 minute the host is very warm but moving the heat very efficiently into the tail of the body so I am not concerned with overheating the diode. I have felt how hot they run these diodes in the projector and it is damn hot even with the fans cooling the aluminum block. All in all I may keep this as a personal unit. Most very compact units have a duty cycle around the same so I like it very much.

I also built a 1.5W/1.7W and it will run like the original without the restrictive duty cycle.

And here are some gratuitous beamshots with smoke.

Great review, but I just dont see the need for dual flexdrives. It seems to be a trend here. Anyone mind explaining?

^^^^^ Yep it allows you to go over the 1.5A max of a single flexdrive and with them both set to 900mA or under you don't need to take great steps to heatsink the drivers.

hi, is there, by any chance, you would make another one of (1.6W 445nm Ehgemus 14650 Pen Host W/dual flexdrives set to 760mA each) and sell it to me? G-1 or aixis in this unit, which has better dot?

Thanks..

I love this one, Must be hard to fit both flex's in that bad boy! I have a few 1.8A drivers, but need two batteries. I think this host, made for two 14650's would be so bad ass at 1.8A!

Yep and these just got better. Here is a little peak at a the new module that Ehgemus is offering. Has a place to sink the flexdrive for 1.5A in any of his hosts.;)

Old module on top and the new module on the bottom. More to come as I get this unit built.:D

Wow, he just gets better and better, especially his ideas.

That whole little tray is to heatsink the flexdrive? That's awesome!

It looks like that bottom host is longer, is it still for a 14650 because of the driver tray being longer?

He is the not first to do the pill this way but it is a great addition to his hosts. They are both the same size it is just the angle making them look different lengths.

Indeed. I have a host by Helios here that I got today which bears a striking resemblance.
