I was wondering what sort of duty cycle you use, and what lifespan you might expect (total hours usage) at this duty cycle with this power level.
Also, is there room for a heatsink on the driver? ( a small one).

Thanks and regards,

AAlasers

-Great beam shots BTW
Well I have a tendency to way overrun my lasers. I seem to think the duty cycle is when the driver overheat protection kicks in. Luckly these 445 diodes seem to be very hardy and I have not seen any degradation in any of my builds yet.

Your a real pro now...

These threads of yours are good for build tutorials too...

The wire twist method is good if you have really nice wire like that stuff you probably got from Flaminpyro...

I did it a little different with my Ehgemus host...

I just made a driver cavity and glued it to the head with thermal adhesive. It has a battery contact board at the bottom just like you've seen in my SolarForce build...

That way I was able to mount the diode and driver, with contact board completely in a single unit, that screws into the barrel.

Looks like his new design is the same deal...

Anyway, once again...

I've seen where Ehg udsed a tailspring on that host...I believe he used some JB weld to hold the spring to the driver board. I've copied that as well, works good, you just have to be neat about it. Good review.

Keep them coming, this is much better than the bikering threads of a couple of days ago, Agreed?

Thanks Jay.

I do love that Flaminpryo wire. He is also talking about getting some smaller wire of the same stuff. And some more colors are on the way as well. It is extremely flexible and heat resistant. He also did a test on his wire and he says it can handle 5A current. His testing method is definitely interesting as well. Here is a link that discuses all the above. http://laserpointerforums.com/f63/fl...ire-55855.html

Glad you liked it.
It does have a tail spring on the bottom of the pill area for the battery positive contact that is connected to a wire that can spin freely.

Certainly is. Back to business as usual.

hello all

I'm a fan of laser and I would build my first laser notebook.

I would like to achieve the same as on the video:
YouTube - DIY: How To Build A 1W Burning Blue Laser Torch!

good start for me I know very little laser but the problem is that I do it or not buy all the components described in the video (Diode-140 drive and flex)

So I ask you to help me in this quest

I would like a minimum laser power 1watt

Thank you all

@DTR Nice review I too love Ehgemus hosts they are the best. Is there a reason why you couldn't hook the flex drive like this so there's no wires to twist

You certainly could. Jay did something similar on his Ehgemus host. And Ehgemus has a redesigned head that solves the twisting issue. There is a plastic pill in this one so I would need to put a flat contact point in the pill that is isolated from the host. I just never liked soldering the driver directly to the diode pins. Makes me nervous that it will get twisted or broken. Possibly pulling the pins out of the diode or breaking them off too low to fix.
