What size of drill to use for press fitting aixiz?

I'm building a BR soon, and I've already made a heatsink for it , which I have tested with an aixiz module.I used a 12mm drill to drill the hole. This turned out to be slightly too big ( need to use some aluminium foil folded a couple of times for the module to stay in ). I'm probably going to be making more of these, and I'm wondering what size of drill i should use to make my heatsinks in future. So that I can have my modules press fitted in.

anyone know what size drill to use ?

thanks a lot,

-Adam

Most of the Aixiz modules I have ever measured have tapered out in diameter from both ends with the largest diameter where the front and back join, I use an 11.9mm milling cutter (reground 12mm) that I keep just for this job.

AIXIZ is the correct way to spell this. So many people make a mistake on the spelling of this not just you jake. I know it's trivial but I've really seen this word badly mangled. AZIX, AXIS, AZIS, I even saw it spelled AXLE once ;D I wish they would change the way that is spelled, the way it is, is too confusing. Anyone agree ?

What size do you make the largest part of the heat sink for it to work in the MXDL?

I have a lathe and a mill

If you have a lathe and a mill, you should have a set of calipers as well. Buy the host you are thinking about and measure it.

I was thinking someone would be kind enough to just post them for me, instead of me having to buy the host... :-/

So you're not going to USE one. You want someone to give you the measurements so you can sell the same thing that they do?!? Or were you hoping someone who bought one from another seller would give it to you so you could go into competition with the sellers without doing any research and/or development?

Interesting ethics there Reb. Are you in China by any chance?

dave

Who ever said I was going to sell them? I actually was only going to do this because I am bored and I have a host that looked similar to the MXDL and I wanted to confirm sizes, although I am not at my shop. I wanted to make one in my layout program, I am not located in China, I don't know what you were implying. :-/

If you "know" all this stuff, then you know that "similar" is not the same, especially with metal to metal tolerances.  If your host is different, what possible value would knowing the dimensions of a heat sink for another host be?  You also stated that you didn't want to buy the host you were going to make the heat sink for.  Why would you want to make a heat sink for a host that you will never own?

If you want to make a heat sink for your host, measure your host.  If you want to copy someone else' host, and you are not going to get that host, the only value I can come up with of knowing its measurements is to make them for sale, unless you just like to make and collect heat sinks ;)

Are you a heat sink collector?

As I recall, I used a T drill and then used a 15/32 to ream it round. A drill bit makes a triangular hole -- hence reamers.
