what did I do wrong?

I was trying to repair my blu-ray because my previous diode died. So i extracted the diode carefully and i pressed it in nicely into the module. I Tried soldering it a couple times but the pins driver wouldn't let the bottom of the module screw in. So i fixed it so the end threads could get started and by the time i was finished screwing the back I heard shit moving around inside. So I unscrewed it to find out BOTH of the important pins got pulled off the diode.

So now I am extremely angry because i did all the shit i was supposed to and fuck'd it up right at the end. I can't even write how pissed off i am, and I know people do this all the time but Im so angry because i basically just threw away 13 bucks on what is now a piece of shit.

When you solder the pins it should be your final step. If you have to go back and make any changes, it is best to remove the board first.

Any stress on the board is directly translated into the pins of the diode. I have not pulled pins out before, but have by accident twisted and rotated them, and always because the driver was attached putting all the stress on them.

You might be pissed now, but dont forget your mistake. In the future take even more time and learn from each bad experiance. Dont make the same mistakes twice, and consider it all part of the learning process.

If I had a nickel for every diode I killed, well, id have many nickels :-/

id rather lose a phr803t than a 6x ;)

(if that helps at all ;D)

you MAY be able to super glue new pins on (or the old ones)but I think it would be WAY more trouble than its worth...

Hey, calm down. I know the feeling of disappointment is very discouraging and frustrating and it basically sucks to throw away money, I've destroyed more then you know, to the point where I became basically numb to it. Don't let it get the best of you, life will have much more effective trials that will demand shit from you that you wont like, but the best thing is to live and learn, move on, and take it as a lesson.

I NEVER screw the back of the aixiz modules in because of this reason. I haven't had a problem yet with Jayrob's heatsinks holding the front part of the module only and protecting the driver inside. I guess it depends on your build though what you can get away with.

Pitch the diode though man, you will only waste your time and continue your aggravation further, just set it aside and wait for your next one.

Oh yeah, one more thing. When I first started building, I would always buy extra sleds just in case.

Dust yourself off and try again. ;)

Well im done with DIY.

I did remove the board, then applied solder onto the board and tried to get the pins on the board better. I really should have just left the back off.

I dont have a problem buying another sled but i really just don't want to try again. I may as well just get a new complete module and keep this junk as spare parts.

Don't give up man. You owe it to the Laser Gods. You will be rewarded if you continue... [smiley=engel017.gif]

Next time drill out the hole in the back part of the Aixiz, then you can make sure you are not screwing the pcb round as you assemble it.

I need a new hobby.

What should i do to try to reconnect the pins?

No, get a new diode. Even if you successfully reconnected the pins, there's a chance the diode could be blown because of the capacitor in the driver.

Just give it some time, you know, it's like a video game. If you can't beat the level and it pisses you off so bad you turn off the system, you'll be sure to find yourself giving it another shot at a later time.

Either do what Rog said, or don't put it on at all, but please do try again!

Lasers are like math, if your doing a long ass equation and you mess up one number your end result will be wrong.

If I try again and fail That would be more then half the money for a complete working one. I don't posses the patience for this hobby, every thing is too sensitive.

Learning doesn't come without mistakes :( There are a few of us here with many $ of dead LD's in a pan to remind us.

I'm not really into learning by mistakes, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on lasers.

Don't use the back half of the Aixiz unless it's absolutely necessary; I've torn the pads off several RKCSTR drivers doing so...

Well the original module had the back on it, i also though it might help with the heat.
