Using BR diode in my current laser pen?

Hello,

First of all, I am new here.
I have read a lot on this forum, and want to build lasers myself.
Currently I have a red 200mW laser pointer pen.

This pen has a focus thingy on front of it so I can turn this around to change the focus distance.
Can I just switch the red with a BR laser?

Don't know if it's the correct driver...

driver is wrong get a rkcstr micro driver see stickies a adjustable style
be carefull you need to set current accordingly
phr 803-t 100mw 10 bucks 100-120 ma
or a ggw 6x 200 mw 65 bucks 100-220 ma
or a 8x bd 203 300 mw 200 bucks 150-300 ma or more maybe

depends on what you want you will also need juiced 3.6 batteries to power this

Sounds like you have the common variety dilda. Keep that laser the way it is and instead just build a BR from the ground up or get a more experienced member to build you one.

i did it and it works great i put an 8x in my first dilda with awesome results i just put a PHR in another dilda and it works good it just doesnt light matches but it does cut electrical tape burn foam and other dark objects and it stings the skin there is a pic in my album of the dilda with the PHR diode next to my green laser!!!!

Either do what john_lawson said, or as other members said, build one. You gain a lot of experience, I'm new to this too, I just bought a BR 120mW MXDL kit from Moh, and I'll be building the majority of that, obviously with the help of Moh's talents in making heatsinks and modding the host for me.

Give it a shot.

John is a veteran member, you have 7 posts. Not to say you dont know what you are talking about, just that you are still a n00b here.

You cannot just switch one laser diode for the other - the driver will most likely not be able to supply the higher voltage for the bluray diode, and if it is able to, it will drive it at too much current.

If you were to replace the driver, it can work fine. I dont believe the optics in the dx/dilda pointer are specifically coated for 650 nm, and they will probably collimate bluray just fine.

Building a driver that supplies a 803 diode with 100-120 mA from 2 lithium cells is pretty easy, so if you want a bluray dilda, go for it
