Nice! But not a kid's toy for sure, even if it looks like one.

For sure not a kids toy anymore! (man toy)

I keep them in a case. The case has a combo lock too if I wanted to lock it...

Yep... I'm going to get a nice video showing the sounds and the safety switch. As well as the custom EzFocus adapter.

I'll get some balloon pops too... Edit: Video added!

Uhm ...... about this ......

%5CAUTOIMAGES%5CPL61851lg.jpg

Do you know that this is a provocation, for the DIY maniac part of me ? ..... :p :D

i think it depend from how much space you have at the top of the rotating part, but i think it can be done auto-turning with a cheap servo from DX (5$, if i recall correctly), modified, and one of those lever microswitches 2PST (a deviator, two positions, long lever, possibly soft to move)

Something like this, maybe .....

attachment.php

Two pins on the finned part take care about the switch that stop the movement, shifting it when the rotation is at the right point, and the other switch set the position, and need to be put somewhere on the body (maybe a slider switch or one of the computer mini-clicky switches, near where the thumb is when you hold the phaser, so it can be acted without use two hands) ..... the servo, if i recall correctly, have usually 180 degrees of movement, so it's enough for rotate it completely without require extra gears ..... just take away the electronic board from it and use it "as is", directly connected to the motor ..... and if it roll in the opposite direction, just swap the wires :p (and adding a 100nF capacitor in parallel of it, can prevent disturbs to the rest of the electronic too)

Oh, btw, they usually works from 3 to 6 V, so if the phaser use a 9V battery, maybe better put a resistor in serie ..... if uses a pair of AA cells, 3V are enough, just a bit more slow :p

Great job Jay sick phaser !!!

I was looking for the old style phaser at toysrus and they didn't have anymore so not wanting to go home empty handed I purchased 2 of the new movie phasers. I like the stun/kill feature you twist it manually and it locks in place then when you press the button it spins back. I made red/blu-ray both sides phr-803t and a loc. I also made a green one but it was only
10mWs , I sold the pair:cryyy:. I think i'll have to do it again but this time keep them and move on up to a 12x diode

Nice HIMNL9

I was thinking a solenoid and cable for speed. Finding one with enough travel and strength to rotate it as it is. Then use a single pole switch like you illustrate with your double pole.

I see what I'm up against when It gets here. If the original spring is to heavy or I can't find the right solenoid with the travel I need, I will definitely move toward doing something more like your illustration.

Thanks,

Wow, that's so cool! Does anyone know where I could get one of these already modded? I have no desire to build my own... :|

Hey Jay,
Would you maybe consider making a the heat sink and ez focus adapter for sale if more people show an interest ?

Hey Jay, nice work.
Working with Pat on these, I have always kinda wanted to run a remote pot to the driver that could be controlled by the little dummy-knob on the side of the phaser, so you could turn down the power when desired. The shoots are very short and you could set the "max-power" much higher than you would comfortably run in a pointer. This would give you even more power, when you needed it without too much affect on your diode-life.

Thanks for the comments on this! :)

I love to see that 'wow' reaction!...

Dark_Horse, hmmm... That's a cool idea Barry! Have to think about that one.

:thanks:

It is a lot of work to make it, but it is worth it...

Yes! In fact I already have a FS thread for these parts...

The custom EzFocus adapter is a lot of work, so it's is not cheap. But I'm confident you will not be disappointed with it!
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-star-trek-phaser-heatsinks-ezfocus-adapter-46946.html

I am offering to do the cone drilling at no extra charge...

And an option for a comlete 'Hot' option phaser build! (without the diode - you would get your own diode)

Check the FS thread!... :)

12X for sure! They are getting cheaper now.

I got mine for $204 shipped from e-bay...

I have several of the Phasers on hand now, and I would do a 'Hot' option kit, but would not include the diode. You would have to get your own diode to turn it into a laser...

Send me a PM if you are interested! :)
