Are there any rules of thumb for pulsed performance of CW diodes?

I have pulsed the original 1w ca$io diodes at aprox 10A, 20usec pulse at 5khz. Its been awhile but I seem to recall power output seemed fairly linear up to this point.

From reading others research I have found power output is limited by localized heating and COD of the facet. At low duty cycle and low pulse width heating should not be a problem. The nub diodes have large emitting areas so that should help with COD. You may find you are limited by die attachment wire current handling at 50amps?

The thing I have found with my limited pulsed testing.... LD's don't like any negative bias. Be cautious of any negative going spikes or ringing. Leads will have to be very short to the driver. A lasorb on the LD wouldn't hurt.

Please let us know how it goes.

Edit: On second thought, A standard lasorb might not work on a pulsed LD? The Vf might be too high. Not sure.

The diode is attached directly to the driver pcb so no leads and hopefully no ringing...

your experience with the 1W casio is interesting. i'll try (destroy) a few different diodes next week....

What is this NUBM55 diode of which you speak? I thought the current king of the hill was the NUBM44 @ 7+ watts.
