so you have the test load and battery leads attached to the driver?

now attach your meter across the 1 ohm resistor and then attach your battery to the battery leads.

Make sure your meter is on DC Volts.

if it is all done correctly, you will see a 0.XXX DC Volts value, in this circuit, 1mV =~ 1mA so if you want 200mA then turn the pot until it reads 0.200 DC Volts.

oh, ok, so if I want 200mA I have to turn the screw on the pad till the correct value shows off, got it.
But is 200mA the value that grants maximum power to the laser? Can I choose other ones?

so if I put, let's say, 300, would it be just about batteries discharging out faster or are there risks of damaging the diode?

both, the more current on the load is more current being sucked from the battery.
you do not know the rating for your diode, i suggest you set it low then ramp it up from there.

Ok thanks, I'll try, first I have to desolder the contacts on the diode

should the multimeter show a "0" value when anode and cathode aren't touching anything? Because it says 0.92V and I'nt measuring anything roght now.

it should be 0V or very close to when the multimeter isn't touching anything.

what happens if you touch the to leads of the DMM together? does it goto zero then?

replace the battery maybe, is your meter of questionable quality?

I don't know, I replaced the battery when I started this topic, the brand is Nimex.
Actually I didn't buy it, an electrician left it here, I found it after a while and is only problem seemed to be the discarged battery.

Never heard of that brand.
maybe it was buggered that's why he left it there!

Does it measure battery voltage ok?
