dam, I'v been using lead free solder (rosin core) in my builds. It worked fine, although tinning the soldering iron is impossible as the solder just gathers in a blob and drop off, and doesnt stick to the tip at all. would leaded solder work any better?

Do you use solder brass curls for cleaning tips ? I use it once in a while to clean the tip. Not every time, I use a wet sponge for regular cleaning.

Those things work great! They take all the solder off perfectly, I usually use a damp cloth though :p

A damp Solder Sponge will ensure the Tip coating
won't get scratched. Once the Tip coating is scratched
it won't take long for the Tip to corrode..
