I bought an LD (PHR803t) pre-embedded in an Aixiz module from hightechdealz about 2 years ago and I can't get the broken laser diode out of the module. (it broke from excessive use) I tried smacking it out with a hammer, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this bugger out.

If harming the diode isnt an issue (apparently its not) I usually just use a small screwdriver and tap it out, with aixiz module sitting on an open surface like a socket so it will fall though when you knock it out.

I was using a screwdriver and a hammer and it wasn't budging, I had it mounted in a "third hand" vice thing. Whoever put it in, got it in Really good...I guess I will keep trying to smack it out later, but I tried for a good 10 minutes.

Theyre usually not that hard to get out... Make sure whatever your using isnt bottoming out on the module itself, and you have something to allow it through once its punched out. If for some reason you can't get it out you could always hit modwerx or hightechdealz up for another. A PHR and a module wont to to expensive.

There is also lots of info for pressing and removing diodes too from other members. Pictorial is sometimes the way to go so you can use the Search bar up top to help you out also :)

its a shame hightechdealz and modwerx don't sell PHR803T's that are already inside the modules. I don't think either sells PHR803Ts anymore

PHR803T's arent manufactured anymore I believe since it was for the reader of HDDVD drives (which aren't manufactered)... The PHR805T is it's replacement and is actually a little bit better.

If I know the LD is dead I just use a nail and hammer. Put the module in a vise and 1-2 taps on the nail sends it a flyin'.

I just grip the threads of the Aixiz with a vice grip (not hard, just so it presses on the outer edge) and press down over a thinner screw driver.

You can also buy those module blanks for cheap from O-like and other sites.
