Re: PSP

Anything that reads a disc does but most aren't powerful at all. The ones in the PSP will be the same as a mini-disk player and not only are they weak (1-5mW) but they are small, built into a heat sink but also almost look like a small chip with a glass cover. When I opened up an old MD player I found it like that, you wouldn't be able to use one of those.

The only disc drive with a decent powerful red diode would be a DVD+/-RW drive for a PC. If you don't have one spare you can always buy one really cheap on eBay.

Cd players use ir lasers. Ir is invisible.

In the future, could you please be more descriptive in the thread subject?
Thanks, it really helps when searching to have a descriptive thread subject.

As for dvd players, the laser diode is of very low power, you would be better off buying a $1 laser pointer. The only drives with higher power visible laser diodes are the DVD burners. sorry.

a dvd player would have a high powered ir which is bad because you cant even see it and it also has a low powered red one it in too, so you can make a not very powerful pointer from it, it wont do much but point tho.

If it can read a CD it has a low power NIR
If it can read a DVD it has a low power red
If it can burn a CD it has a high power NIR
If it can burn a DVD it has a high power red

The higher the speed it can burn at, the higher the power of the diode.
