Hello,
I just received a 10mW green laser pointer from Adrian, and it's great. However, there was a problem with the spring on the module; it came off.

I put it on the spot it was before, but I didn't solder it down because I don't have a soldering iron. I then put te batteries on the spring and am currently using te laser. What could happen if the I didn't put the spring properly on?

The batteries could short out if the spring hits anything uncoated.

Just grab yourself an $8 soldering iron, and fix it right. A soldering iron is never a bad investment.

Well, it could come loose and short out against the case and possibly cause your batteries to overheat and explode, destroying your laser completely.

Normally I wouldn't recommend it but if you don't want to spend money on a soldering iron + solder you can get away in this case with a cheap lighter and a snippet of solder from someone or the cheapest rosin core solder you can find. Just carefully heat the spring with the lighter's flame NOT touching it until the solder melts and resolder it. Or, take the laser to someone you know who knows how to solder.

Okay then, I'm best to give it to somebody I know who knows how to solder.

Just curious, how big would the explosion be? I just want to know for general knowledge. They are AAA.

Explode in reference to shorted alkalines usually means "explosively leak". Think of stepping on a ketchup packet.

I've seen them just get hot and never rupture, I think this is the way it goes most of the time.
