Thanks a bunch! the diode comes with a lense , but not a way to mount it inside the diode housing
i figured that was in the diode housing when i ordered it
also is there any way i can get a burning laser a bit cheaper?I've had to lower my budget due to some unexpected cost, im looking to get the diode driver pill and lense for under 30, can be any color but i want it over 200 mw, any suggestions? Or should i keep my parts till I can afford to build a better one?

What parts have you purchased so far? I just noticed you are buying the wrong batteries, you need two 16340 unless you use a boost driver, then you can use only one 18650. You can use two 18650's in a C6 if you also buy the extension tube Battery Extension Tube- Black Anodized Aluminum Your budget is already too low, however you could probably do a 650nm red that's 200mW+ for a little less but burning ability will be minimal.

Heavy Duty Steel Mini Vise - Free Shipping - DealExtreme
Will that be usefull enough to push the diode into the housing? i just need it for a one time use, as of right now, and this seems logical, but will the mouth open wide enough?

$7.55 Authentic Samsung ICR18650-22F 18650 3.7V 2200mAh Rechargeable Lithium Batteries (2-Pack) 2-pack at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping pulled 6 of these from a laptop battery that windows said wouldnt work, suspecting its 1 cell because it still powered my laptop for a minute or two. so no more cheapo batteries

That's great! Good job recycling something that might have been thrown away. Are they flat top or button top?

As far as the vise I can't say for sure but it looks borderline to me. Do you also have a diode press tool?

To partly answer your earlier question about the 200mW+ laser I would suggest this may be a reasonable choice.

also on regaurds to the use two 16340 batteries, why wouldn't I be able to use 1 18650?

Can i use these in my laser?
and no i was going to order a full aixiz module and just use the back of it to push the diode in. you know flip the back piece around, align the pins inside the hole and place it in the vise

Yes you can use those but they are flat top. Some lasers need button top or they wont make contact but that's very easy to fix. I have both types but they are used in different lasers. If you need to you can add a blob of solder to the top of the battery or solder a tiny piece of metal to it or more often people use Nickel plated Neodymium magnets, it will be necessary if you use a pair of them in one laser, if using only one battery in a laser sometimes you have a spring inside at both ends and sometimes you don't.

also on regaurds to the use two 16340 batteries, why wouldn't I be able to use 1 18650?

EDIT: You will almost always need 2 batteries unless using a boost driver, and that is the case with the driver and diode you were going to buy.

Have you bought from HighTechDealz? they have a 1W 445nm laser diode in the module, so id save close to 5$ after not having to buy another housing and the vise to put it in.and I'm fine with just 1 of the 18650s then?

I have never bought from them before but plenty of people here have and not much problems as far as I know.

No your not fine with just one 18650. You will need 2 unless you use a boost driver.

Thanks for putting up with me and my stupidity, where can I find a boost or xboost driver?
Also I think I'm going to purchase through them, best bet and I don't have to worry about wrecking the diode.

Ordered housing and charger today, went with the C6 housing i planned for. Also, the diode with hosuing, what would be a decent driver for it? I'd prefer being able to recycle these batteries for this laser, if not thats fine and ill get some 16340s or something. and will the lense on that housing be fine or will I need to buy a separate glass lense?

It would be easy to answer your questions if you would post links to what you buy, otherwise its impossible.

OK good, I thought you had bought the blue from HighTechDealz, I would have given you the wrong answer. This red one is much cheaper plus you don't need to buy a lens, the acrylic one it comes with is fine, also if you screw up your first build you wont be out as much money. I think you can assemble a complete laser for about $65 - $70. One thing about acrylic lenses, you might not be able to use the focus ring because these lenses are shorter and to focus it properly you may have to screw it too far into the module for the focus ring to be attached.

On the C6 host what pill option did you choose? It will make a big difference in what driver you can use and how you assemble the laser. I was going to suggest you get the drilled pill because that will make things easier, but if you didn't that's OK you can work with the standard pill. Also what heat sink did you buy?

bought the standard pill, and I got this heatsink

OK that will work, when the C6 arrives put it together with the heat sink inside without the tail cap and test with your DMM for continuity between the threads for the tail cap and the heat sink, they should be isolated from each other because the host is anodized, I would have recommended an anodized heat sink in this case because of this diode. An anodized heat sink wont conduct electricity. Nearly all laser diodes are case neutral but some are case negative like this one and some are case positive like IR diodes so you have to be very careful how its wired and what host/driver combination you use or else the module needs to be electrically isolated from the host.
