Making Case for Lasers

Okay, I have seen people having pictures of metal cases with foam inside and I think that looks really slick. I HATE the little cardboard boxes my lasers come in and so I would like to see how hard it is to make one of these cases. How do you make the indented part for the laser to lay in? Or do you have to custom order it somewhere? If I could make it, where would I get the foam stuff for it?

I don't know about building, but I bought a sturdy Pelican case (model 1495) from a local distributor. Was about $200, but it's awesome. Has a code lock on it, along with 4 strong latches that keep it watertight. Comes with perforated foam in small squares, that you can either pull out in bunches or cut out like I have. I would trust this case to go through a lot of abuse and keep the lasers inside safe the whole time.

hmm....200 is a bit much....but right now I am looking at the 1080 and I like the size of it and the fact that I could buy it for 60 bucks on amazon.com.

Alot of the times the seller will include the case. NOVA lasers for instance provide nice cases with the lasers they sell:

Well I may have a bit of a hold up now because my new green 50mW rayfoss JUST stopped working :cryyy: so I will see what Faona replies with....but ya, think I may go for a pelican eventually

Use Seahorse cases on the cheap. Very close to Pelican quality without the Pelican price. I use these for everything from electronic enclosures to my RC radio case. For my lasers, I use this model.

The se300 is nice if you have larger lasers and it can easily fit goggle with them also. The se120 is ideal for pen lasers. Just pay attention to the dimensions in the specs. Make sure to order one WITH the foam. Score the pick-n-pluck foam and instant custom fit. These babies are great!

I use the se520 cases for my wireless firework ignition systems. And if these cases can take the pummeling of 1.3g fireworks, they can protect lasers.

These look like a VERY good alternative to the Pelican cases. I like the Pelican cases very much but not so much the price. I'm sure they are worth it but....

For the price, these Seahorse cases look great!!!

What I would do is go to the friendly folks at your local Cabelas and pick up a simple pistol case. They often come with locks, and several layers of thick foam that you can cut to fit your photon spitters. They're cheap, and come in many sizes.

I've that's what I ALREADY did..

I think the Pelican Case at $200 is bigger than the Seahorses.

I have some nice units that are about 12" X 10.5" X 4"
They are effecively new. Held some laser power meters for a medical companmy. I bought and resold the meters.
I have over one dozen of these. If anybody wants one or more, PM me.

I'd let them go at $20 each plus shipping: $5 prio mail so $25 incl shipping to USA.

These are NOT waterproof, but are more like Zero cases. More stylish than a boxy flight case (brand name escapes me) I think, as they have rounded corners.
These have a lock and Key!
Kind of like a hard atache case.
The top is padded, and the bottom area has a custom closed foam area. One would need to fil the bottom with some new foam and cut it to fit pointers, meters, etc. Hard plastic with an aluminum frame.
