The LPC-815 sled contains the awesome long open can diode.

These LOC diodes are about as good as we have for reds at a very reasonable price. I like 420 to 430mA's. (heatsinked)

The LCC diodes from the 4X and 6X blu-ray sleds are very nice red diodes too. Personally, I run those at about 395mA's for around 225mW's. (AixiZ acrylic)

Some may be pushing the LCC diodes higher...

since br-drives are usually capable of at least reading dvds they need a red diode... in case they also burn dvds (not sure if all do, but i would expect so considering the price of dvd burners) they need a powerful red diode, which is what we are up to ;)

@aussi
LOC means Long Open Can its not just one speziall diode!

two builds from one sled - not bad....  :eek:

cheers

yeah buy br sleds are too enpensive :(
i'd rather just buy an lpc and phr sled for half the price of a 4x or 6x br sled.

basically you are right of course, to my understanding there is a difference in output power between a phr and a 4x/6x. nevertheless the phr gives an awesome br-diode :cool:

yes i am sure about price for those 6x sleds, but there is also diference in output like said above..

also if you consider that this red diode is some value too this makes price for 6x BR diode little bit less..

example 6x sled cca 56 - red diode cca 12 usd = 44 for 6x BR diode..

not so bad

you are basically right also. if you count the red the 6x comes down to a somewhat more reasonable price, but even then it is still ~370% more than a phr...

are there any comparing pictures between a phr and a 6x (meaning like beamshots)? imho the phr is dangerously bright enough, i can't play with it for more than a few minutes till my eyes feel weird :eek:

i am also curious about diferences in visibility.. i am sure that there is huge diference in burning ability, but what about visibility - especialy beam??  :-/
