Ok, so I have the following:
1 - AixiZ module case including ring, acrylic lens, spring, diode mount and end case
1 - 405-455nm 1W compatible driver board
1 - AR coated specialty AixiZ lens for 405-455nm laser diodes

1 Aixis driver board (sold as 1-2 watts, rated at 1 watt):

I was hoping to use a mini-mag for this mod (I have several of these to play with), but have ordered a CreeT6 LED Zoomable 1600lm CREE XML XM-L Focus Adjustable Flashlight 2x18650:

Can I make this work? Anybody see anything I'm doing wrong so far?

Well your first problem is making this your first post. You're gonna wanna make a welcome post before posting anything else, it's just a little formality and will help you meet people for help and show that you're here as a fellow hobbyist, not just someone trying to gain information.
Thanks and welcome!

You seem like you're on the right track. You'll need a heatsink for that host but you can get that easy from many members here. Batteries too, I recommend panasonic 3100mah or tenergy 2600mah. I'd go with 18650 batteries for that host but I'm not %100 as i've never used that particular host

that driver is a boost driver and the host takes 2x 18650's so it wont work.

you have 3 options to work with if you want to use that host:

1. A linear driver.

Or

2. A Buck driver.

Or

3. Use your current driver with 1x 18650 dummy cell.

Speaking about putting people on the right track... You should probably refrain from triple posting....

Use the edit button and add more info into your last post.

And no rudeness taken btw, common mistake which is why I informed you :)

Wait a minute, do you have a diode in that module?

Lol, you just triple posted and you were giving him advice on forum etiquette

It's bad forum etiquette to double post, let alone triple post. Please use the edit button to add to/correct posts. It's easy and makes sense.

I'd be happy to get the thing working at 500mw. Ok, so now I need to really look into the difference between boost and buck drivers. Why did AixiZ send me that as part of a kit called "AixiZ 445nm laser module assembly kit (no diode)" They said "This is a complete kit needed to assemble a 445nm laser module except for the diode." I got this directly from Aixiz.... anyway, haksaw1 told me I could bitch about it here :)

EDIT:

I have a 500mw purple that apparently didn't have reverse polarity protection. I put the battery in backwards for 2 seconds and fried something, now it's just a weak beam. Can I do something with this as a host for what I have above?

I just can't get the damn diode housing out (I've been so tempted to get out my dremel):

Ideas? Thanks again!!

So I picked up a Cree Q4 on a whim, hoping to use this as the host:

It is a complete kit for assembling a laser (minus host, heatsink and battery). If you choose a host that is really long and requires 2 batteries, it's not their fault. Just make or buy a battery spacer and use one battery to run the driver.

I just can't get the damn diode housing out (I've been so tempted to get out my dremel):

Its probably glued in, but I hope you were trying to turn it anti clockwise? The scratches look like you were trying to tighten it....;) A circlip removal/insertion tool should work. Also if the diode is fried and you dont want the original driver etc you could try heating around the top.

Please dont double post LaserPointerer was just asked not to, in his previous post....:tsk:

I only have internet access through my ipad, it doesn't allow me to edit posts or even quote replies. Not bad etiquette just bad technology.
Sorry,

Got it working. Got the heatsink unstuck, removed the crappy diode and board, replaced with AiXis driver board and new >2w diode. It burns things from far away now. Forget about using the lower-end crees (Cree Q4/Q6) etc.

Learned a ton doing this.
Thank you guys for your help.

Have a QQ: Just disassembled a server DVD RW drive and got two diodes that look exactly the same. What gives? (Cut me some slack here, I've had two beers, I'm being lazy, please don't make me use the google.) :)
