I found some on Laserglow...and I had a few questions.

http://www.laserglow.com/AGS#

1: What does 'optical density' mean, and is it worth the extra money to buy 7 instead of 2?

2: Does it ruin the spectacular-ness of the laser? Dim beam, smaller dot, less visable light, not as bright, etc?

3: How do I know if it's working?

4: How much power does it cut when shined through the glasses? Will it take it to a point where I can shine it in my eye purposely and nothing will happen?

5: Why do they have glasses for almost every wavelength except 405nm? (their other type does, sport is only 532, and 660)

6: And lastly, what do you guys recommend as far brand for laser safety goggles? Any good ones out there?:can: That won't cost an arm or half a leg? I'm looking at around 50-90...not $200!

Thanks for all yall's help!

optical density is the amount that the glasses protect by, OD1 is 10% of light gets through, OD 2 is 1% etc. OD7 will let through only 1/10 000 000th of the light

2: Does it ruin the spectacular-ness of the laser? Dim beam, smaller dot, less visable light, not as bright, etc?

yes of course, u will only see a tiny dot and at OD7 maybe not even see it at all...(definitely no beam, dot will also appear whiteish depending on glasses)

3: How do I know if it's working?

the laser will appear extremely dim

4: How much power does it cut when shined through the glasses? Will it take it to a point where I can shine it in my eye purposely and nothing will happen?

no never shine a laser in your eyes even with glasses on, they cannot with stand for long to a highpowered laser, and some power will still come through

5: Why do they have glasses for almost every wavelength except 405nm? (their other type does, sport is only 532, and 660)

not sure...

i reccomend dragonlasers, they have a pair that does 405nm and 650nm for $50 shipped i think

Thanks for all yall's help!

lol no problem happy to help :yh:

Are there any glasses that you recommend so I can still see a beam, and dot, but it's still protective? Especially for 532nm, since it's so visible, will an OD2 be good enough to be safe, but still allow a beam...on say..a 50mw? What about a 200mw? Or is that something that requires testing?

no its not possible, the glasses are supposed to absorb light, so it is not possible for much light to get through. therefore you cannot still see the beam.
with OD2 a 50mw would become 0.5mw and u wont see the beam. 200mw will become 2mw, still no beam probably
