Hey guys,

Sorry if this is a repeat on a topic, i searched a bunch of different pages and categories but didn't find the info i needed.

1. How do i mount the diode into the host if i dont have the tools i need, IE the press, or little diode tool..

2. I will be mounting the laser into one of kenom's Kryton Groove hosts. and recommendations on how to do so without a press or the little diode press tool?

all advice would be great!

thanks

I think the Kryton has a custom heatsink doesn't it? So you haven't got an Aixiz module? If you had, you could use the back part and put the pins through the hole and use a vice to sqeeze it in, (no other way rounf this really. You can't hammer it in, it must be gently and evenly pressed!). Other than that, all you are looking for is essentially a tube. Outside diameter small enough to sit just inside the outer edge of the diode; and inside diamter large enough to allow the pins to sit comfortably inside.

Obviously your tool needs to be fairly strong and a shorter one will be more likely to press straight and not slip but it must be longer than the pins.

[EDIT: Here's a recent thread - http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/inexepnsive-diode-press-tool-52960.html] ]

Or you can buy a tool... Plenty on offer in the Pro-Shop and B/S/T sections.

I hope that helps.

The Kryton is a "direct press" diode pocket host. To use the Kryton, you should first use a large drill to create a "sloped/angled" shape at the opening for the diode. Then you should press a used/trash diode into the pocket to deform it to the shape of the diode. Then remove that trash diode and clean up anything that "extruded" where you don't want it ;) Then press your diode into place.

Peace,

You can also use a roll pin. It's a low cost fastner that you can find at a hardware store for about 10 to 25 cents. We include them free for the asking on many of our empty housings.
The size selection is limited, so we picked 3/16" It's a little bigger then that since I think they are sized for the after press fit size.

On our modules the diode must be seated below flush, so you need a tool smaller than 5.6mm (for that diode size). Otherwise, a larger tool can be used if the diode is only seated flush with the rear of the module housing.
