So I was looking at all the cool laser burning projects and was wondering how I could make a good one myself. I saw the kipkay video and decided I would try to make something like that. http://kipkay.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Laser-Flashlight-Hack.pdf
He uses a 650nm 5mW laser module.3.2V to with lens 650 nm OEM,

a 200mw laser diode 650n

and Maglite Mini Mag-Lite 2 Cell AA Flashlight

to put it all in. I was wondering instead of a 200-mw laser diode if I could use a 350mW -400mW Blue Laser Diode

350mW -400mW Blue Laser Diode

can I just simply switch out the two laser diodes or do I have to use the 200 mw. Also, I see these laser drivers, I don’t know what these do and don’t know if I need them. Kip kay doesn’t use one but then it says if you want a long-term laser you should get one in the FAQs. If I do need a driver for the laser, where can I get one as cheap as possible for my laser? Also I don't know what the Nm means but if it means something important please tell me.

Kip-gay is wrong on so may levels, please do not harm any innocent laser diodes by using his hack(ed) together videos.

If you read around on this forum a little you will find that you need a driver to power a laser for any period of time. Think of it as a governor on a gas engine, without it the laser diode will continue to pull voltage until it kills itself.
As far as what driver would be cheapest, well you would need to know what batteries you are using and what diode you are trying to run. Please search the forum a little more, I guarantee the info you are looking for is on this forum in a very easy to find place. And you will also find that there is a big laser world that you will know nothing about by just watching the kipkay videos and searching ebay, there are a lot more diodes out there for a lot less money!

Ok so I have tried to choose all the parts I wanted for my laser and decided to use a 650nm 300mw diode that has Maximum Pulse Output: ~300mw. Recommended current: 300-330mA. Fit perfectly in 12x30mm Laser Case. And the module is a 650nm 5mW laser module.3.2V to with lens 650 nm OEM. I also wanted to use a micro flex drive v5 preset current as the driver I think I want it preset to 320. For power, I wanted to use about 2 AA batteries. What I am now asking is when I put it all together will it work

Why do you need a 300mw diode AND a 5mw module?

Get the 300mw laser diode and an Aixiz housing. The flex drive will work with the 2x AA battery set up, but is not recommended because of limited use before batteries are dead.

Other then that your all sweet.... except, you don't know what your doing. You must first understand how to set a driver, discharge the caps, soldering techniques, press fitting techniques etc etc....

Also I highly recommend laser saftey goggles for the wavelength that you are using (650nm)

Better start reading!

You mentioned in your fist post you might do a red OR blu-ray. Why don't you get the 405nm 6x Blu Ray GGWH20L Sled located here:
HighTechDealZ - Lasers
It only cost $45.00 compaired to the $40.00 200mw red diode you listed in your first post and it has a 6X blu-ray diode with a 16X LCC red diode. There are different options too, you can have them pressed into aixiz modules for you for a small fee.
You still need the driver AND safety goggles.
Or, if you just want a red diode go with the LPC-815 LOC. A lot us have successful driven these at 400mA or higher! It's less than $20.00 I have both of these diodes, check my sig.
