Identifying LD's

I have a handful of LD's and no good way of identifying them. Ideally i would like to find datasheets for all of them but i dont think that will be possible, one of them is out of an old laser printer. what i need is preferably a list of websites to search through. I guess any good place any of you guys go to identify your LDs would be good.

One of them i recently pulled out of a cdrw drive has no markings on it. i am fairly confident it is the writing laser because it was in a metal heat sink while the other laser was pressed into the plastic sled with no metal around it.

If any one would like me to i will post pictures and numbers of the LDs to help identify them.

Doesn't the KES-400 have five pins?

At any rate, all 5.6mm diodes look really similar, often they have no markings, and for all intents and purposes cannot be identified by looking at them.

A laser printer will have a weak IR diode, probably something like a low speed CD burner would have... Not really much fun to play with.

Around here we identify laser diodes by what piece of electronics we ripped it out of... If you don't know that the best you can do is just plug them in to a driver, set them to a low current, and start doing some tests.
