Hi there,
I apologize in advance for the lengthy post and numerous questions, and i promise i have enough decency and forum etiquette to search through old posts with sevaral keywords and through specific sections of the boards.
Id like to be comfortable enough building the blu-ray and green pointers to sell on campus and at various shows, and hope to soon be able to produce 10+ units to start, and several times that soon after.
So, Ive been scouring the forums (lots of searching) for info on how to install the diode and driver for a blu-ray setup, with only partial luck. Prior to ordering the parts, Id like to have the info on how to solder the diode and driver in place, as well as understand what current is necessary for the most efficient/powerful output. Ive found the posts regarding setting the current, but nothing too specific on the diode soldering.
Do you have a recommended setting for current (as well as any other settings needed) for the pocket mini kit (for blu-ray) Is 290-300mA appropriate? Whats the best way to tell whats most appropriate?
If i purchase the pocket mini kit with the hot option, what is involved with the rest of the build? Ive read over the post about the kit several times, but remain a little confused. Do i just need to solder in the diode? What about the button? Does the ground being attached to the case allow the button on the flashlight to take over? Anything else?
As for the DIY green kit, do you know if the modules from DX will suffice, since the o-like site has been down for some time? the modules can be found here:
DealExtreme: $46.81 200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm)
Im assuming that the modules can fit into the kit with the tightening screw, but please verify. What is involved with finishing the pointer if this will fit? Besides soldering a wire for bypassing the button on the module, how do i connect it do the button on the DIY kit?
If you know of any threads involving soldering/installing the diode and button in place for either build, please direct me to them.
