Ok so im new, Please go easy.

Im planning on getting a blu-ray diode from a ps3 running as my 1st project, ive looked into the driver and fully understand all that but im still unsure on what power to run the diode at.

Sams FAQ says 30-40 ma (or round about that)

the rogg8811 says 125ma

Big difference between them so whats right ???

also instead of an aixiz module could i use one of the old setups from dead green lasers ive owned??

If it's indeed a bluray diode from PS3 sled, then it's 30mA max, (I think reccomended is 25mA), the 120mA current rating is for a PHR-803T sled diode.

Unfortunately, you cannot use one of the old green modules, as the innards are designed quite differently, they are not meant to focus the diode into a beam, rather to direct the diode's light into a crystal, and crystal's output is then manipulated through several optics.

You really need an Aixiz module for this, sorry.

Thanks that's what I thought, it's deffo from a ps3 as I have dismantled the whole drive myself.
I have a 5mw red lesser pen that's run on a diode that looks the same as the bluray one (not the flat open ones you Normaly find in cheap pointers) would thing be ok to just swap diodes with or shall I just get few aixiz for this and what ever I decide to build next ? (I hav a DVD diode I plan on construction next.

You'll want something that'll be able to act as a heatsink. Laser pens are not well suited for that, except maybe green laser pens like Newwish pointers. Get those Aixiz modules so you can put them into something else once it's wired up.

Ok cool I'll order a few later, I've just finished finding all the parts I need from work so I'll get on with building the driver and testing it with a dummy load tonight so when the modules come I can just pop the diode in and fire it up.
