then your power supply is bad, or your diode is bad. check each one individually.

hook up another LD to your power supply
or
hook up a different power source to you LD

Its definitely the diode, I use the power supply for testing all my diodes, and it did the same thing put in a portable build.

It sounds like its next host will be a large round bin with a plastic liner unfortunately.

i'm not trying to be a dick, but if you know it's the LD then you know there is nothing to be done.

you should never be too quick to shut out diagnostic ideas. there can easily be something skipped. i had a problem where i was adamant that my batteries were good because they were reading proper voltage. and for days i was scratching my head. it turned out my batts were bad. the read voltage but had no current.

Ben, be careful hooking your power supply directly to the pins. It can be done (I do it often), but start your current at 0 then ramp it up.

Some of those supplies have a nasty spike if powered on at the desired current. Just a little friendly info. :)

Thanks for the help guys. I hooked up the diode to the bench supply like I always do, and it got hot, after that I hooked it up to a jib drive and it had the same issue.

You can try to recleave the facets, that ought to fix the problem, although your lasing efficiency will drop like a rock and you will see shorter wavelength.

Perhaps the bond wires you are using are too thin. You can replace those with a larger gauge wire.

Also, you may have to redeposit the top layer to homogenize the cavity current injector.

Don't forget to test the flux capacitor too.

From the testing I've read there is a 3% chance of getting a zombie. Thats roughly 3 zombies per 4 projectors. So its not unheard of. Unfortunately you shouldn't use it, because it wont last long, and the heat issue may impact the battery.
